Mets’ Wheeler allows two runs in fifth straight win
Zack Wheeler yielded two runs over seven innings in Friday’s 6-2 win over the Marlins. Wheeler just keeps rolling. The only damage was a two-run homer from Miguel Rojas in his final inning of work. It snapped a 23-inning scoreless streak for Wheeler. Still, it was another strong outing for him. He allowed just four hits in all while walking one and striking out eight. He’s now won five straight starts and holds a 2.08 ERA and 34/6 K/BB ratio in 34 2/3 innings during that time.
Orioles’ Bundy struggles against Red Sox in last start
Dylan Bundy was charged with eight runs — seven earned — over five innings Friday as part of a no-decision against the Red Sox. Bundy gave up a three-run homer to Xander Bogaerts in the first inning, but his offense fought right back and actually gave him a five-run lead at one point. He ultimately failed to hold it, as the Red Sox put up six runs in the sixth inning while chasing him from the game. He struck out three and walked four in the disappointing performance. His ERA is now at 4.70, which matches his season-high. He’ll try to improve that next week against the Indians.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Mets are winless in their last four games versus the Orioles.
Baltimore
The Orioles have lost 10 of their last 12 interleague home games.
Prediction:
I look for the Mets to rebound tonight. Wheeler has been excellent of late and the Mets are 6-0 in his last six starts because of it. They’re also 4-0 in his last four outings coming off a quality start and are 12-5 in their last 17 games when facing a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30. The Orioles, meanwhile, are 1-5 in Bundy’s last six starts and are 2-5 in his last seven outings when he pitches the second game of a series.
The Pick: New York Mets -105
