Mets’ Vargas pulled after rain delay in last start
Jason Vargas was charged with three runs over just one-third of an inning and was pulled after a rain delay Tuesday in a loss to the Reds. The game started on time for some reason even with rain on the way and it lasted just nine minutes before the tarp was pulled on. Vargas didn’t come back out after an 80-minute delay. The veteran left-hander could come back on short rest after the abbreviated outing, although the Mets probably aren’t super anxious to rush him back to the mound
Orioles’ Cashner allows three runs in seven innings vs. Rays
Andrew Cashner gave up three runs (one earned) in seven innings and did not factor into the decision against the Rays on Wednesday. He surrendered RBI knocks to Jake Bauers and Joey Wendle in the first inning, then settled down to rattle off several scoreless frames before yielding one last run on a sacrifice fly in the seventh frame. He allowed four hits and a walk in the contest while striking out two. Cashner's record holds at a dismal 3-10 with a 4.83 ERA and 1.51 WHIP in 22 starts. He's recorded just 88 strikeouts against 51 walks in 121 innings. He's not recommended in fantasy leagues, in large part because the Orioles rarely give him much run support.
