Mets’ deGrom strikes out 10 over six scoreless innings

Jacob deGrom struck out 10 batters over six scoreless innings Wednesday in the Mets' 8-0 blanking of the Reds. DeGrom was brilliant, scattering four hits and a walk, and the Mets' offense finally managed to provide him some run support as he picked up his first win since June 18. The 30-year-old right-hander is 6-7 on the year despite an MLB-leading 1.77 ERA. He also now has 183 strikeouts in 152 1/3 innings this season.

Yankees’ Severino earns 15th win vs. White Sox

Luis Severino notched win No. 15 after pitching seven innings of three-run ball against the White Sox on Wednesday. The White Sox fulfilled their usual slump-buster role, as Severino was able to turn in his first quality start in his last six outings. He struck out eight and walked none.

MLB Betting Trends

Mets

The Mets are 1-4 in deGrom’s last five starts versus the Yankees and are 2-7 in their last nine games overall versus the Bombers.

Yankees

The Yankees are 5-2 in their last seven home games against the Mets.

Prediction:

The Mets are 1-5 in deGrom’s last six road starts, are 1-8 in his last nine outings when their opponent allows two runs or less in its previous contest, and is 4-10 in his last 14 starts overall. The Mets flat out don’t hit for deGrom, even though he’s dealt virtually from start No. 1 this year. Meanwhile, the Yankees are 22-4 in Severino’s last 26 home starts, are 7-1 in his last eight interleague outings, and have won 14 of his last 16 starts when facing a team with a losing record.

The Pick: New York Yankees -1.5 (+120)
