Mets’ deGrom strikes out 10 over six scoreless innings
Jacob deGrom struck out 10 batters over six scoreless innings Wednesday in the Mets' 8-0 blanking of the Reds. DeGrom was brilliant, scattering four hits and a walk, and the Mets' offense finally managed to provide him some run support as he picked up his first win since June 18. The 30-year-old right-hander is 6-7 on the year despite an MLB-leading 1.77 ERA. He also now has 183 strikeouts in 152 1/3 innings this season.
Yankees’ Severino earns 15th win vs. White Sox
Luis Severino notched win No. 15 after pitching seven innings of three-run ball against the White Sox on Wednesday. The White Sox fulfilled their usual slump-buster role, as Severino was able to turn in his first quality start in his last six outings. He struck out eight and walked none.

The Mets are 1-5 in deGrom’s last six road starts, are 1-8 in his last nine outings when their opponent allows two runs or less in its previous contest, and is 4-10 in his last 14 starts overall.
