Yankees' Sabathia lasts three innings in no-decision vs. Red Sox
CC Sabathia scattered three hits and two earned runs over three innings of work Thursday in a no-decision against the Red Sox. CC recorded two strikeouts and four walks over 77 pitches. Sabathia walked in a run in the second and later served up a solo home run to Steve Pearce in the third. The left-hander was struck in the leg by Blake Swihart’s line drive in the third inning, which may have led to his early exit.
White Sox' Lopez takes shutout into eighth inning vs. Royals
Reynaldo Lopez pitched seven-plus innings and allowed two runs against the Royals on Thursday. It was seven scoreless innings, but Lopez gave up a double and a bunt single to start the eighth and was pulled. After that, Rick Renteria opted to play matchups against a Royals lineup that wilts against left- and right-handers alike. It backfired when the fourth pitcher of the eighth, Xavier Cedeno, gave up a three-run homer to pinch-hitter Whit Merrifield (the previous two each struck out their lone batters faced). With what had been a 2-0 lead coughed up, Lopez remained 4-9 on the season. He hasn't been great, but he deserves better than that record.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Yankees have won 25 of their last 32 games against the American League Central.
Chicago
The White Sox have lost four of their last five games at home.
Prediction:
I took a flier on the White Sox last night and they were effectively shut down 7-0 by the struggling Yankees. I still see some value in the underdog Sox, who are 4-1 in their last five games overall and 5-1 in their last six games after scoring two runs or less in their previous game. The Yankees, meanwhile, are 2-5 in Sabathia's last seven road starts, are 1-5 in their last six road games and are 1-10 in their last 11 games when their opponent scores two runs or less in their previous game. This time around I'll add some protection on the runline.
The Pick: Chicago White Sox +1.5 (+105)
