Velasquez throws seven strong in win
Philadelphia earned a 7-3 victory last night at Arizona to improve to 59-53 overall and 25-27 on the road. Scott Kingery helped lead the Phillies offense as he ended the game 2-for-5 with a solo home run and a double. Jean Segura finished 2-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs. Adam Haseley was 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored. Vince Velasquez picked up the win on the mound as he allowed two earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts and two walks over seven innings. Jake Arrieta draws the start tonight as he enters with an 8-8 record, 4.44 ERA and 1.45 WHIP with 100 strikeouts over 127 2/3 innings pitched.
Peralta drives in a pair
Arizona fell by a count of 7-3 at home Monday night against Philadelphia to drop to 56-57 overall and 25-28 on the road. David Peralta finished 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs to pace the offense. Nick Ahmed was 2-for-3 with a double. Eduardo Escobar went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Merrill Kelly took the loss as he gave up four runs (three earned) on eight hits over six innings, striking out four and walking one. MLB Betting Trends
Philadelphia
The Phillies are 4-0 in their last four road games. Philadelphia is 5-2 in its last seven Arrieta starts.
Arizona
The D-backs are 2-10 in their last 12 Tuesday games. Arizona is 1-4 in its last five games versus a right-handed starter.
Prediction:
Both starting pitchers have struggled at times this season, but Leake is better at limiting baserunners and Arizona's offense have a couple big games before yesterday. I can't trust Arrieta to pitch deep into the game here and I think the Diamondbacks take advantage of a pitcher who is a shade of his former Cy Young-winning self.
