Boston Red Sox Fantasy Spin
Xander Bogaerts went 4-for-4 and went deep twice but the Red Sox still lost to the Rays on Thursday. Bogaerts nailed Rays' starter Brendan McKay twice -- a two-run dong in the first inning and a solo shot in the fifth. He also doubled and singled in the contest. The 26-year-old shortstop broke out with the bat last year and has kicked it up another notch in 2019. If he keeps this up he could end the season as the runner-up to Mike Trout in the American League MVP balloting. He ranks third in the majors in both RBI and runs scored. He is raking at a .320/.399/.587 pace with 25 home runs, 84 RBI, 87 runs and three steals. His previous career-high for homers in a season was 23.
New York Yankees Fantasy Spin
Aroldis Chapman labored through a difficult ninth inning Wednesday but still earned his 27th save Wednesday in a win over Arizona. Chapman was called on after Tim Locastro led off the ninth with a solo home run off Nestor Cortes. He wound up walking two while also allowing a two-out, RBI double to David Peralta. July wasn’t kind to the left-hander, who submitted a lackluster 9.35 ERA with three blown saves this month. The 31-year-old can still dial up the heat when he needs to—he hit triple digits on Wednesday—but Chapman has certainly become more reliant on his breaking pitches, a departure from past years when he lived and died by his fastball.
MLB Betting Trends
Boston
The Red Sox are 40-11 in Eduardo Rodriguez’s last 51 starts and are 17-5 in his last 22 outings versus the rest of the American League East.
New York
The Yankees have dropped five straight games in which James Paxton starts.
Prediction:
The over is a perfect 7-0 in the last seven meetings between these two teams, is 12-1 in Rodriguez’s last 13 road starts and is 19-7 in his last 26 outings overall. On the other side, the over is 3-1-1 in Paxton’s last five home starts and is 9-4-1 in his last 14 outings overall. When these two teams clash, the over is as safe a bet as there is in baseball. Don’t overthink it tonight.
The Pick: Red Sox/Yankees OVER 10
