Padres win as underdogs
San Diego scored early and late Wednesday night to post a 7-2 victory at New York to improve to 48-53 overall and 25-26 on the road. Fernando Tatis Jr. helped pace the Padres offense as he finished 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Hunter Renfroe went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Manny Machado was 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored. Matt Strahm picked up the win in relief as he struck out four in two perfect innings of work. Eric Lauer draws the start today for San Diego as he enters with a 5-7 record, 4.31 ERA and 1.33 WHIP with 79 strikeouts over 96 innings.
Syndergaard solved by San Diego
New York lost by a score of 7-2 at home Wednesday night against San Diego to drop to 46-55 overall and 24-20 at home. Noah Syndergaard suffered the loss as he gave up four runs (three earned) on eight hits over seven innings, striking out eight and walking five. Michael Conforto helped lead the Mets offense as he finished 2-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI. Jeff McNeil ended the game 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run scored. Amed Rosario was 1-for-4 with a double. Jacob deGrom gets the start this afternoon for New York as he comes in with a 5-7 record, 3.02 ERA and 1.11 WHIP with 154 strikeouts over 122 innings pitched.
MLB Betting Trends
San Diego
The Padres are 3-8 in their last 11 games. San Diego is 5-0 in the last five Lauer Thursday starts.
New York
The Mets are 2-8 in the last 10 deGrom starts. New York is 0-4 in its last four Thursday games.
Prediction:
I don't know what the deal is with the Mets not being able to get wins consistently in deGrom starts, but if there is any better indication that New York is a mediocre team I don't know what it is. He threw seven shutout innings his last start at the Giants, but ended up with a no-decision in a 1-0 loss. But I'll keep going to the well as he's too good of a pitcher for his team to not get him some results. I'm taking the Mets with confidence to win the game and the series here.
