Giants' Suarez struggles in last start before All-Star Break
Andrew Suarez allowed four earned runs, four hits and two walks with five strikeouts over five innings in a loss against the Athletics on Sunday. Suarez labored to get through five frames, throwing 59 of his 90 pitches for strikes. The good news is that the left-hander has allowed just two homers over his past seven outings across the past 41 innings. The bad news is that he has issued six walks over the past 11 innings. Despite a 3-6 record he still has a solid 3.94 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in his first 84 innings in the majors.
Mariners' Paxton officially cleared to return from DL
James Paxton (back) remains on track to rejoin the Mariners' rotation Tuesday against the Giants. Paxton threw a 40-pitch bullpen session Saturday without issue and felt good a day after Sunday. The left-hander had to leave his final start of the first half with lower back inflammation but it appears that he'll be fine moving forward.
