Yankees' Severino allows four runs against Indians

Luis Severino allowed nine hits and four runs over five innings in a no-decision Thursday against the Indians. The start clearly wasn't one of Severino's best, as he gave up more homers (two) than he had strikeouts (one) during his five innings. He's sort of stumbling, relatively speaking, into the break with a pair of middling starts, but it has still been a wildly successful first half for the 24-year-old even with Thursday's outing. Going into the All-Star break, Severino is 14-2 with a 2.31 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 144/32 K/BB ratio through 20 starts.

Rays' Wood pitches one inning in first career start

Hunter Wood logged a scoreless inning in his first career start Wednesday against the Tigers. The right-hander wasn’t especially sharp, allowing two hits (both singles) in his lone inning of work. On the bright side, he did deliver a pair of strikeouts while also throwing 16 of his 22 pitches for strikes. Wood has spent most of the year in Triple-A but has pitched well when called upon with a 1.80 ERA across 10 major league innings. The Rays are only using a three-man rotation at the moment—Wednesday was another one of their "bullpen games"—but their grand experiment seems to be working. Among AL clubs, only the Astros, Yankees and Red Sox have posted a lower ERA this season.

MLB Betting Trends

New York

The Yankees are 4-1 in Severino's last five starts against the Rays.

Tampa Bay

The Rays are a perfect 4-0 in their last four games versus the Yankees and 4-1 in their last five home games against New York.

Prediction:

The under has cashed in six of the last seven meetings between these two teams and is 6-1 in the last seven meetings in Tampa. Meanwhile, the under is also 8-1 in the Rays' last nine games versus American League East rivals, is 5-1-1 in their last seven games versus a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15, and is 7-3-1 in their last 11 home games. Finally, the under is 21-7-2 in the Yankees' last 30 games versus a right-handed starter and is 7-2-1 in Severino's last 10 starts when facing a team with a winning record.

The Pick: Yankees/Rays under 7.5
