Murphy hits first homer of season
A pinch-hit home run by Tom Murphy in the top of the eighth inning yesterday broke a tie and sent the Rockies to their seventh win in a row, a 6-5 triumph at Arizona. It was Murphy's first homer of the year and ninth in his MLB career. Charlie Blackmon finished 1-for-4 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Gerardo Parra was 0-for-2 with two walks and a run. Trevor Story went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run. Ian Desmond ended the night 2-for-4 with a triple, a stolen base, a run and an RBI. Garrett Hampson finished 1-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI. Scott Oberg picked up the win as he allowed one earned run on two hits with one strikeout and one walk in one inning. Wade Davis earned his 28th save, allowing one hit with two strikeouts and a walk in one inning of work.
Souza has three-hit night
Steven Souza Jr. paced the D-backs' offense in the defeat as he was 3-for-4 plus a walk and two RBIs. Ketel Marte ended the game 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs. Paul Goldschmidt was 1-for-4 with a walk and a run. A.J. Pollock drew two walks in five plate appearances and scored two runs. Nick Ahmed was 1-for-4 and scored two runs. Yoshihisa Hirano took the loss as he surrendered one earned run on two hits in 1 2/3 innings, striking out two and walking one.
Antonio Senzatela (3-2, 5.34 ERA) will start today for the Rockies, while Arizona will counter with Zack Greinke (10-5, 3.18).
MLB Betting Trends
Colorado
The Rockies are 19-7 in their last 26 games. The over is 14-5 in Senzatela's last 19 starts.
Arizona
The D-backs are 22-8 in Greinke's last 30 home starts. The under is 21-8-2 in Arizona's last 31 Sunday games.
Prediction:
While Colorado has been red-hot, it is Arizona with its ace on the mound today. Greinke has a way of pitching stellar ball when his teams need a win the most and with Arizona dropping to third place, today's contest qualifies. There is a lot of season left to be played, but with LA loaded and Colorado playing outstanding baseball the Diamondbacks can't afford a lot of slip ups especially when favored heavily.
