Astros prevail in shootout to close first half
Houston went into the All-Star Break with a 57-33 record including 33-14 at home following a thrilling 11-10 10-inning home victory Sunday afternoon over Los Angeles. George Springer drove in Josh Reddick with the game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the 10th. Springer completed the game 3-for-7 plus the RBI. Yuli Gurriel went 2-for-4 with a home run, two walks, three runs and two RBIs. Tony Kemp finished 1-for-1 with a home run, a walk and two RBIs. Michael Brantley went 4-for-6 with three runs scored. Ryan Pressly picked up the win in relief as he gave up one hit with two strikeouts in a scoreless inning. Framber Valdez will start tonight for Houston as he enters with a 3-4 record, 4.57 ERA and 1.37 WHIP with 41 strikeouts over 45 1/3 innings.
Twins go into All-Star Break with win
Texas picked up a 4-1 victory in 11 innings Sunday afternoon at Minnesota to head into the All-Star Break with a 48-42 overall record and 19-25 on the road. Rougned Odor broke the tie in the top of the 11th inning with a 3-run home run. It was the only hit for Odor in five at-bats. Danny Santana finished the contest 4-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Joey Gallo was 2-for-5 with a double, a walk and two runs scored. Shin-Soo Choo went 2-for-2 with a pair of walks. Shawn Kelley picked up the win in relief as he gave up two hits and struck out two over two scoreless innings of work. Lance Lynn draws the start tonight for Texas as he comes in with an 11-4 record, 3.91 ERA and 1.22 WHIP with 123 strikeouts over 115 innings pitched.
MLB Betting Trends
Houston
The Astros are 39-19 in their last 58 games overall. Houston is 1-4 in the last five Valdez starts.
Texas
The Rangers are 4-1 in their last five Thursday games. Texas is 8-1 in the last nine Lynn home starts.
Prediction:
Lynn has been a revelation in the Rangers staff and has been particularly good at home. With Texas having the pitching advantage and playing well at home all season, I like the hosts in this contest. Houston has a 7.5-game lead in the AL West standings and have a bit of wiggle room to take in some losses in the second half. I'm going with the Rangers here.
