Flores hits walk-off home run
New York pinch hitter Wilmer Flores hit a walk-off home run in Game 1 of Monday's doubleheader to send the hosts to a 4-3 victory over the Phillies. Asdrubal Cabrera paced the Mets offense by going 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and two RBIs. Amed Rosario contributed a double in three at-bats. Tim Peterson earned the win in relief as he allowed one hit and struck out two in an inning of work. Philadelphia was paced by Cesar Hernandez, who finished 2-for-4 with a walk and a run. Carlos Santana walked three times in five plate appearances. Nick Williams finished 3-for-5 with an RBI. Scott Kingery went 1-for-4 with a walk. Andrew Knapp was 1-for-4 with a walk and a run. Maikel Franco ended the game 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk. Victor Arano took the loss in relief as he allowed the home run to Flores on the first batter he faced.
Three-run fifth propels Philly
The Phillies scored three runs in the fifth inning on their way to a 3-1 win in the nightcap of the doubleheader Monday at the Mets. Aaron Nola helped his own cause as his bases-clearing double made it a 3-1 game. Nola was dominant on the hill as he gave up only one hit while striking out 10 and walking one over seven innings to earn the win. Arano struck out the lone batter he faced for his third save. Santana had the only other hit in the contest by Philadelphia as he was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run. Corey Oswalt took the loss for NY as he surrendered three earned runs on one hit with seven strikeouts and three walks over six innings. Flores had the only two hits as he went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
MLB Betting Trends
The under is 7-1 in the last eight Philadelphia games. The Phillies are 7-2 in their last nine games overall.
New York Mets
The Mets are 9-25 in their last 34 home games. New York is 59-27 in the last 86 meetings.
We don't have an MLB read on either of the two starting pitchers, so I'm going to make this easy and go with the better team here. That is the Phillies and given how much the Mets have struggled at home, I think it's the right play here.
