Devers, Bogaerts homer in win
Boston earned a 9-6 victory Friday night at Detroit to improve to 47-41 overall and 27-19 on the road. The Red Sox allowed a 6-1 advantage shrink to 6-5 before a three-run eighth inning put it away. Xander Bogaerts helped lead the way as he finished 1-for-4 with a home run, a walk and four RBIs. Rafael Devers ended the contest 1-for-3 with a home run, two walks, two runs and two RBIs. Mookie Betts went 3-for-4 with a double, three runs and an RBI. Eduardo Rodriguez notched the win as he gave up one earned run on four hits with four strikeouts and a walk over five innings. Rick Porcello will start today for the Red Sox as he enters with a 5-7 record, 5.07 ERA and 1.40 WHIP with 76 strikeouts over 94 innings of work.
Tigers unable to rally back
Detroit cut its deficit from 6-1 to 6-5 at home Friday night against Boston before ultimately fallig by a count of 9-6. Jeimer Candelario helped lead the Tigers offense as he finished the contest 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and two RBIs. Brandon Dixon was 2-for-4 and scored two runs. John Hicks went 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk and two RBIs. Ryan Carpenter suffered the loss as he allowed three earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and one walk over five innings. Jordan Zimmermann draws the start today for Detroit as he comes in with an 0-5 record, 5.36 ERA and 1.39 WHIP with 31 strikeouts over 45 1/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Boston
The Red Sox are 25-9 in their last 34 road games. Boston is 4-1 in the last five Porcello starts.
Detroit
The Tigers are 14-40 in their last 54 home games. Detroit is 7-19 in the last 26 Zimmermann home starts.
Prediction:
Zimmermann is basically an auto-fade for me. While Porcello hasn't had a season up to his standards, he has a much better offense supporting him and they should get to Zimmermann early and often. Porcello also has the boost of pitching against his former team and should excel against the weak Tigers offense. Strongly consider the runline bet here.
