Lester lowers MLB-best ERA
Chicago lefty Jon Lester lowered his MLB-best ERA to 1.16 Sunday night in a 4-1 home victory over the Brewers. Lester picked up the win as he allowed one earned run while scattering nine hits with six strikeouts and one walk over 6 2/3 innings. Kris Bryant helped pace the offense as he went 3-for-4 with a home run, three runs scored and two RBIs. Javier Baez went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and an RBI. David Bote ended the contest 2-for-4. Steve Cishek threw a perfect ninth inning for his second save. Kyle Hendricks will start tonight's game as he enters with a 2-4 record, 3.19 ERA and 1.28 WHIP with 34 strikeouts over 42 1/3 innings.
Reds edged at Giants
Cincinnati could not secure the road sweep Sunday afternoon at San Francisco as it fell 6-5. Yasiel Puig helped pace the offense as he went 1-for-3 with a solo home run plus a walk. Eugenio Suarez was 2-for-5 and scored a run. Jose Iglesias ended the contest 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Jose Peraza finished 2-for-4 with a double and scored a run. David Hernandez took the loss as he surrendered two earned runs on three hits with one strikeout and no walks over one inning. Tanner Roark starts tonight for the Reds as he comes in with a 3-1 record, 3.27 ERA and 1.43 WHIP with 37 strikeouts over 41 1/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Chicago
The Cubs are 4-0 in their last four road games. Chicago is 21-6 in its last 27 games overall.
Cincinnati
The Reds are 5-1 in the last five Roark starts. Cincinnati is 5-2 in its last seven series openers.
Prediction:
Chicago is not really the team I want to be betting against too often lately and Hendricks has been absolutely outstanding in three of his last four starts. While he'll be in a hitter's ballpark here, it's also against a Reds offense that has been very inconsistent this season and often downright awful. Roark has also been in good form, but he's still the more hittable pitcher in this matchup and I expect him to give up a few against this potent Cubs offense.
