Noah Syndergaard will look to build on his last sensational start tonight when the New York Mets play at the San Diego Padres. Can Syndergaard guide to New York to the win as it looks to snap a four-game losing skid?

Mets shut out in series opener
New York starting pitcher Jacob deGrom was out-dueled in the series opener Tuesday night at San Diego in a 4-0 defeat. The Mets allowed one run in the fifth inning, one in the seventh and another two in the eighth of the loss. In taking the loss, deGrom allowed two earned runs on four hits with seven strikeouts and one walk over seven innings. Jeff McNeil went 2-for-4 from the top of the order. Todd Frazier finished 1-for-3, while deGrom tried to help his own cause by going 1-for-2. Syndergaard, coming off a complete-game four hit shutout, enters tonight's game with a 2-3 record, 5.02 ERA and 1.28 WHIP with 49 strikeouts over 43 innings of work.
Paddack spectacular in win
Rookie Chris Paddack threw 7 2/3 of shutout baseball Monday night in a 4-0 home victory over New York. Paddack allowed four hits with 11 strikeouts and one walk in the stellar performance. Craig Stammen struck out one batter in 1 1/3 innings of perfect baseball to record his first save of the season. Hunter Renfroe led the way by going 2-for-4 with a double and a solo home run. Eric Hosmer ended the contest 2-for-4 with a double, a run and two RBIs. Manny Machado was 1-for-4 and scored a run, while Manuel Margot finished 1-for-1 with a run off the bench. Cal Quintrill will start tonight for the Padres as he is coming off his first MLB start, giving up two earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts and one walk over 5 2/3 innings in a 5-1 loss at Atlanta.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Mets are 0-6 in their last six road games. New York is 0-5 in its last five road starts against a right-handed starter.
San Diego
The Padres are 4-0 in their last four games versus a right-handed starter. San Diego is 5-2 in its last seven home games.
Prediction:
New York is in a tailspin right now and Syndergaard will be tasked with turning things around. I'm not sure this is an ideal matchup for a struggling Mets offense as they don't have much of a scouting report on Quantrill, while it's quite possible Syndergaard will take a major step back after putting the team on his shoulders last week. I think there is good value here on the home team continuing New York's woes.
