Astros cruise to shutout win
One day after falling 1-0 at Minnesota, Houston rebounded with an 11-0 victory to even the series at a game apiece. The Astros got on the board with a run in the third inning while scoring two in the fourth, four in the fourth and another four in the eighth. Jake Marisnick helped pace the Houston offense as he was 1-for-4 with a home run, two runs and two RBIs. George Springer went 2-for-5 with a home run, a double, a walk, two runs and two RBIs. Alex Bregman finished 1-for-5 with a solo home run and a walk. Gerrit Cole threw seven stellar innings as he gave up only one hit with 11 strikeouts and three walks. Collin McHugh draws the start today and comes in with a 3-2 record, 4.78 ERA, 1.06 WHIP plus 37 strikeouts over 32 innings.
Twins unable to put up fight
Minnesota suffered an 11-0 home defeat Sunday against Houston to fall to 17-10 overall and 9-5 at home. The Twins fell behind in the third inning and were unable to mount any rallies. Max Kepler paced the Minnesota offense by going 2-for-3 with a double and a walk. Jonathan Schoop ended the contest 1-for-4. Michael Pineda suffered the loss as he allowed five earned runs on nine hits with two strikeouts and one walk over five innings. Martin Perez will start today for the Twins and enters with a 3-0 record, 4.44 ERA, 1.59 WHIP plus 23 strikeouts over 26 1/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Houston
The Astros are 16-7 in their last 23 games overall. Houston is 9-4 in the last 13 McHugh starts.
Minnesota
The Twins are 5-13 in the last 18 meetings. Minnesota is 3-8 in the last 11 home meetings.
Prediction:
McHugh has been pitching much better than his numbers suggest, thanks to one awful start at the Rangers. Look for a stellar McHugh outing here against a Twins offense that has scored one run total in two games this series. Houston has a powerful offense and should get to the very hittable Perez and make the hosts turn to the bullpen early. I like the Astros to get the win here.
