2011 U.S. Open Second Round Odds To Win – McIlroy Favored

McIlroy leads once again

BETHESDA, Maryland (TheSpread) – In a scene we have seen before, Rory McIlroy emerged with a sizeable lead after the first round of a major, as he has a three-stoke lead at the 2011 U.S. Open.

McIlroy shot a 6-under 65 on Thursday to take a three-shot lead on the likes of Y.E. Yang and Charl Schwartzel, who both shot 68’s on Thursday.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog, McIlroy now is the clear favorite to win the U.S. Open with 2/1 odds. Schwartzel now has 12/1 odds while Yang has 16/1 odds and Matt Kuchar has 18/1 odds.

McIlroy may have the lead in the Open, but he also led after the first three rounds of the Masters before shooting a final-round 80 to finish in 15^th place. On Thursday, McIlroy went without a bogey in his round.

Schwartzel won the Masters this past year and he opened his round on Thursday with a bogey before shooting 4-under on the back 9 to post a 68.

Yang shot a 68 on Thursday and he posted five birdies and two bogies in his round. Yang has one major championship to his credit.

Kuchar shot a 1-over 72 on Thursday to finish tied for 34^th place, but Kuchar is still among the favorites due to his consistent style of play. Kuchar had five birdies, three bogies, and one double bogey on his round.

The 2011 U.S. Open will be played at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland and continues Friday, June 17 and runs until Sunday, June 19.
