Brian Nadeau's Daily Picks

Fonner Park - Race #1
Picks Notes
#6 Flashin the Cash Deserving favorite may have failed at short odds in her last two but she was 2nd both times, and either of those runs might lap this field today; imposing.
#10 Charming Diva Class riser was a solid 2nd last time with a fast figure, and while the pick seems out of reach, that run can net her a big piece underneath; logical EX partner.
#5 Nola's Sugarplum Major underlay was facing better at Hou and DeD, but it's not like she did any running there either, so if this 7-2 ML holds, she's not playable; tread lightly.
Race Summary That 5-2 ML on the pick might well be 4-5 by post, so make an aggressive win and place bet if the tote allows, though you can get some added value by singling her to kick off the early Pk5, as the public usually doesn't like to employ that angle at the start of the sequence, since there's a mental block about being eliminated in the opening leg, which means you can take the free square here and spread in the remaining four legs, as she's got this group over a barrel.

Fonner Park - Race #3
Picks Notes
#7 Miss Elise Stalker got the job done off the layoff last time against MSW foes, and while tackling winners is never easy, she meets a field with plenty of speed, her win was fast (for this group) last time, and she figures to offer a hint of value as well; call right back.
#4 Shade of Justice Fellow stalker has a 15-1-4-5 record, so you know she's not all that interested in winning a horse race, but the flow here really suits her style, and, if nothing else, she's against winners, so while she's not too trustworthy, she figures to make a dent; using.
#2 G G Holiday ML favorite aired against a big field in the MSW ranks last time and rates as the one to catch, but there's a lot of speed to her outside, and this group won't blink when she tries to scoot clear of them off the far turn; thinking she comes unglued in the lane.
Race Summary Pace makes the race and there's plenty of it here for the 7 (and the 4) to track, which should only help her chances off the far turn, so give her a look in all the slot, and especially in the early Pk5 a well, since she has every right to build off that return win, and if she does, she'll have every right to double up.

Fonner Park - Race #7
Picks Notes
#9 Wild Drive Pace presser did well to draw outside for her style, exits a fine 3rd at the level, sees plenty of inside speed to gauge, and could offer a hint of value as well; call to post the mild surprise.
#2 Overanalyzer The definite favorite has won two straight, in very fast time, and looks like a handful on the class rise, but with some speed to his outside, he may stumble here; still, looms plenty scary.
#8 Scooter's Boy Stretch runner should get enough pace to rally into, and he's another with two straight wins, though he was all-out last time and now faces a much tougher crew; using underneath only.
Race Summary The price should be right on the 9, and he's eligible to trip out nicely here too, so give him a look in all the slots, and especially the late Pk5/Pk4 as well, since a win in the 5-1 range or so would go a long way in adding plenty of value to both sequences, especially with a potentially strong favorite in the 2 lined up.

Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

Will Rogers Downs - Race #7
Picks Notes
#11 Lady Laura Really looks like a solid single to kick off the Late Pick-4, as she's probably quick enough to stay in touch early at this 6f trip, and she'd be a real handful with anything like that two-back run at Sam Houston.
#8 Quick Calisia Has run a couple of good ones in a row in the off going over the local surface, and if the top choice can't work out a trip or fails to fire, this one is most likely to take advantage.
#6 Latejana Has not shown much ability through six races, but she's going to be an attractive number for a capable barn, and her last was at least a little bit better. Underneath at a number?
Race Summary Lady Laura looks tough if she can bring her Sam Houston form with her to the local footing, and she has enough tactical pace to find a spot from her wide draw.

Will Rogers Downs - Race #8
Picks Notes
#5 Tapsolution Think he might be the right one off the even debut effort. He didn't flash a ton of pace that day but was within range of a :21.3 quarter, so he can probably find a really nice trip right up near the top on the move around two turns.
#8 Just Ask Joel Another that figures to be near the top in the early going after showing a bit of tracking sprint pace at Sam Houston. Wide draw may force his rider's hand just a bit?
#1 Box Seat Finisher took to the local oval when second, but he was also 3/5 on the board that day and will probably need a bit better to score today.
Race Summary A couple of Asmussen runners lead this bunch, and both can get decent trips near the top as they move around two turns. The better draw goes to Tapsolution, and he's also coming out of a better spot.

Will Rogers Downs - Race #9
Picks Notes
#4 Call Me Willing to take a bit of a swing in a spot where a handful of the main players all look the same -- capable but relatively uninspiring. This guy ran on with a little bit of interest and galloped out well in his sprint comeback, and there are some back route races that would keep him in the mix. Grinding sort of effort from midpack?
#1 Sugoi A bit interested in this guy off the nice maiden win last time out, but he'll have to prove he can reproduce something similar on the dirt. Turfway to Will Rogers shippers at 10:1-0-1 in the last three years for whatever that's worth.
#5 Mr Midtown He's actually an interesting fit here even before that huge-figure win last time out when wiring a bunch in the off going, but that big number is going to depress his price to a degree where he will almost surely be an underlay. He gets a good race shape, but I'd need every bit of the 12/1 ML on the hike.
Race Summary Call Me should be a price that will justify the risk of hoping that he can improve significantly in this second start off the bench while trying two turns. Sugoi and Mr Midtown seem capable but iffy, while the most obvious players on paper are #7 Lindante, #8 Momma's Baby Boy and #10 Kirk of Diamonds. Fun race.

Jerry Shottenkirk's Daily Picks

Fonner Park - Race #2
Picks Notes
#4 Run for Matty Made up the kind of ground you don't normally see on a bull ring when he went from 10th after a quarter-mile to 4th at the finish, making up more than 10 lengths. The addition of blinkers likely will keep him closer to the action early.
#7 Jomo Opened up three length but lost that lead and finished 2nd in his only start here; capable of a strong race on the front end.
#9 Youwonderwhyidrink Comes off his best effort in four starts and continued improvement would make him a big player; clearly a chance at getting his number on the board.
Race Summary Run for Matty was hopelessly beaten early but made a strong run into respectability in his debut, gets blinkers for this one and has a big chance of improvement.

Fonner Park - Race #8
Picks Notes
#6 Love At Night Has an impressive 10 of 12 record at Fonner Park and most recently drubbed Nebraska-breds by seven in the Orphan Kist Stakes. Won the edition of this race last year and followed with a win in the Swihart Memorial. Can handle open company.
#9 Eaton's Memory Goes after her 3rd straight win and done well in traveling from track to track; her last came vs. N4L claimers at Sam Houston. Can be close-up throughout this one.
#7 I'mabarnkat Won three of five at Houston and has been on or near the front in most of her races; was claimed in her latest and makes her first for Gourneau.
Race Summary Love At Night tremendous over the local oval and fillies and mares that try to keep up early will compromise their chances; can get another Fonner victory.

Fonner Park - Race #9
Picks Notes
#5 Itsallaboutyou Ran well vs. allowance company at Remington and trainer Black is hitting 22 percent at Fonner; will have to get going earlier than normal but she has the class to take her home here.
#6 Holding Fast Won at this level two back and then follow with a 3rd in the Tondi; trainer Martinez at 32 percent on the season and can get this one to run another big one.
#7 Ourbestfriend D L Was 2nd in the Tondi after setting the pace; had been at Oaklawn and will be tough if she runs back to her latest.
Race Summary Itsallaboutyou can benefit from a fast pace and can make a lot of ground on these; one to look for in the homestretch.

Handicapped by The Turf Club Analysts
PURCHASE

Bar

Will Rogers Downs - Race #6 - Post: 3:45pm - Maiden Claiming - 5.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $8,580 Class Rating: 60

Rating: Golden DollarGolden DollarGolden DollarGolden Dollar

#1 IN THE NIC OF TIME (ML=5/1)

IN THE NIC OF TIME - This should be an easier task than what he was asked last time out against 'open' company. You have to consider the solid works of late.

Vulnerable Contenders: #4 WOODS OF CONGAREE (ML=5/2), #9 POPPY'S OATS (ML=3/1), #5 BURBACH (ML=4/1),

WOODS OF CONGAREE - Last raced on Apr 7th at Will Rogers Downs, finishing fifth. Unlikely to advance off of that effort in today's race. POPPY'S OATS - If you keep selecting these sort of 'hanger' types, you're going to be disappointed often. Would have to improve off that fifth place finish last time to make an impact here. BURBACH - Not likely that the speed fig he recorded on Mar 31st will hold up in this affair.

STRAIGHT WAGERS:
#1 IN THE NIC OF TIME is the play if we get odds of 1/1 or better

Handicapped by The Walker Group at Fonner Park
PURCHASE
Always check program numbers.
Odds shown are morning line odds.

Race 9 - Allowance - 6.0f on the Dirt. Purse: $9200 Class Rating: 99

FOR THREE YEAR OLDS AND UPWARD. THREE YEAR OLDS, 120 LBS.; OLDER, 123 LBS.

RECOMMENDED CHOICES
The Walker Group Picks

# 9 EXECUTIVE DECREE 5/1

# 2 BANDWIDTH 12/1

# 3 HEISAYANKEE 8/1

I think EXECUTIVE DECREE is a competitive choice. Shows evidence of the look of a lucrative play, averaging a solid 93 speed figure which is one of the strongest in this field. The winning percentage shown by horses entered by Wise running at this distance are the best in this group of horses in this race. If you examine closely, this one has some longshot possibilities. BANDWIDTH - Have to assume this equine will make a good showing again this time around. He should be given a shot given the strong speed numbers. HEISAYANKEE - Always good to invest in a trainer with this kind of respectable win percentage - 24 percent - at this distance & surface. Has decent early pace and will almost certainly fare strongly versus this field.
