Tuesday NHL Betting Preview
By Sportsbook.ag

Anaheim Ducks vs. Minnesota Wild

Sportsbook.ag Odds: Anaheim (+135) vs Minnesota (-155); Total set at 5

When the Anaheim Ducks set on on this six-game road trip at the beginning of the month they knew things would be tough. So far they are 1-4 SU on the trip with the only win coming at Buffalo, but what makes it worse is the fact that they've got to end the trip by playing the top two teams in the league.

It was a 6-4 loss to Washington on Saturday night, and now they face a first place Minnesota team that have won four of five and seven of 10. Do the Ducks have enough energy in them to salvage another win on this road trip?

Minnesota has led the Western Conference for most of the year thanks to their strong play on both ends. The Wild rank 4th in the NHL in goals per game (3.35) and 2nd in the NHL in goals allowed per game (2.31). Only Washington has a better rank then Minnesota in both categories and from those numbers alone you can see why this is a tough ending to a long road trip for the Ducks.

Minnesota is also 2-0 SU against Anaheim this year, beating them 2-1 at home in early January and following that up with a 5-3 win on the West Coast a few weeks later. Tonight's game is the third and final regular season meeting for the two and should they end up meeting in the playoffs, an 0-3 SU record vs the Wild would have to squash any confidence Anaheim may have entering that series. But the playoffs are still a ways away and for the Ducks it's all about ending this road trip on a high note.

Anaheim may have lost 6-4 vs. Washington on Saturday night but there were positives and negatives to be taken away from that performance. The 3-0 1st period hole the Ducks dug for themselves was a huge negative, but so was the fact that they gave up the game-winning goal with under three minutes to play in the third period.

The positive in all that was the fact that Anaheim was able to battle back and tie the game at 4 against the league's best team overall and while every coach will state there are no moral victories in professional sports, at the time that had to be one for the Ducks. If Anaheim can avoid a disastrous start again tonight, then bettors should expect them to be in this game until the end.

Furthermore, it's not like Anaheim is an overly bad team and the +135 price tag attached to them does present some value. Being at the end of a long trip hurts them a bit situationally, but Anaheim is on a 10-1 SU record after allowing 5+ goals in their last outing, and the two days off between games should help. The Ducks are 23-8 SU when playing after two full days off and with a 6-2 ATS run going in their last eight trips to Minnesota, an upset could be in the making.
