The Chicago Cubs lost for the seventh time in eight games as they suffered a 4-2 defeat at Milwaukee on Sunday. I think they look like a good fade again here when hosting the Pittsburgh Pirates for their home opener Monday afternoon.
The Bucs are coming off a four-game sweep of the Cincinnati Reds and will hand the ball to right-hander Jameson Taillon (0-1, 3.46 ERA) who is 4-3 with a 3.88 ERA in eight career starts against the Cubs. He's had good success at Wrigley Field where he owns a 2.50 ERA in three outings. The Pirates are 10-4 in Taillon's last 14 road starts.
The Cubs hand the ball to left-hander Jon Lester (1-0, 3.00 ERA) who has held opponents to two runs in six innings in both starts this season, but note that the Cubs' bullpen ranks dead last in the major leagues with a 7.51 ERA on the season.
All in all, this is a good enough price to back the visitors.

I'll take my chances here with Chicago as a small home favorite. The Cubs are off to a miserable 2-7 start to the season, but not a single one of those games have come at Wrigley Field. Chicago was one of just 6 teams to win 50 or more games at home last year.
The poor record has really covered up a sensational start to the season by the Cubs offense, which leads the MLB in both average and on-base percentage. The pitching has simply not been up to par, but as long as they keep swinging the bats like this the wins are going to come.
Hard to not like their chances of cashing in a win in their home opener behind ace Jon Lester, who has been one of the bright spots in the rotation. Lester has lasted 6 innings and gave up just 2 runs in each of his first 2 starts. He has a 2.51 ERA over the last 3 seasons in the month of April. Give me the Cubs -120!

Easy call here despite travel for the Bums. Ryu has been very good in two starts and the Dodgers have been mashing in winning their last five straight. Ryu has also done well vs. St Louis with a 2.25 ERA in four lifetime starts. The Cards are 4-5 and Mikolas has been hit hard in two starts and no success vs. Los Angeles in a couple of relief stints. Take the Dodgers.

Most are going to take the short price on Seattle, as the Mariners own the best record in the big leagues at 9-2 and the Royals come in having lost 6 straight. I just think the value here is with the home dog.
Kansas City will start Homer Bailey, who had a solid first outing of 2019, striking out 8 and giving up just 3 runs over 5 innings. My money is on him outdueling veteran Felix Hernandez, who many feel is only in the Mariners starting rotation because of his name and resume.
Hernandez was decent in his first start, but that was at home. He was awful in spring training and finished up 2018 with a 8-14 record to go with a 5.55 ERA and 1.40 WHIP. He also had a 6.97 ERA in 14 appearances on the road.
Seattle is just 2-9 against the money line in his last 11 starts and are a mere 4-10 in their last 14 as a team in road games against a team with a losing home record. Despite a 2-3 record at home in 2019, Royals are still 17-8 in their last 25 at Kauffman Stadium. Take Kansas City!

The Angels bounced back nicely from a poor start on the road this season by winning their final three games of the series against Texas, holding them to a combined 4 runs in the three games in the process.
I expect the Angels to win their fourth straight games tonight while getting another gem out of starter Trevor Cahill. This guy has been one of the more underrated starters in the big leagues for years. Cahill has posted a 3.75 ERA and 0.833 WHIP in two tough road starts this season at Oakland and at Seattle. He has a 0.00 ERA and 0.800 WHIP in one career start against Milwaukee.
The Brewers had the luxury of playing seven of their first 10 games at home, and their three road games came against the one-win Reds who have been the worst team in baseball to this point. They are coming off a huge series win over the Rival Cubs and this is likely a letdown spot for them. Tonight’s starter in Jhoulys Chacin is no better than an average starter in this league.
The Angels are 61-27 in their last 88 vs. NL teams scoring 4.5 or more runs per game. The Brewers are 25-51 in their last 76 interleague road games vs. a right-handed starter. Los Angeles is 9-2 in its last 11 home games. The Angels are 17-8 in their last 25 interleague home games. Bet the Angels Monday.

Cavaliers over Red Raiders- I expect that like last Saturday the majority of the action to be on Tech Tech as UNLV dies thinking about what could have been. I am not referring to the 'action' in Nevada but the reason behind Chris Beard's short 10-day stint with UNLV. (I ask my Vegas buddies if he stayed with the Rebels would they be in the Final-4...HA. Beard found out the program out here is a sham and left as quickly as he could). Having lost last season as a No. 1 seed to a 16-seed makes this a storyline for Virginia and although Tech is 'really good' I believe the Cavaliers poise and big games experience will be the difference. Take VIRGINIA!
