Lean – Syracuse (-1.5) over Baylor

Rotation #788 – Thursday, 6:57 pm Pacific

Syracuse has suspended starting shooting-guard Frank Howard but my analysis suggests that losing Howard is insignificant given his 36.5% shooting. In fact, the Orange might be better off without Howard given their +0.08 net efficiency in 999 possessions without Howard and their +0.04 net efficiency in 1304 possessions when he’s in the game. The Syracuse defense is 0.01 points per possession worse than their season rating without Howard but the offense is 0.03 PPP better without his bad shooting. The line went down a bit after Howard’s suspension was announced but I think it should go up ½ a point to a point while the total should go up.

My ratings favor Syracuse by 2.5 points with a total of 134.7 points and the Orange apply to a 32-8 ATS round 1 situation. Syracuse is also hard for non-conference opponents to prepare for as it’s hard to simulate their unique match-up zone and length. It’s no coincidence that Syracuse is relatively better over the years in non-conference games and they’re 36-24-2 ATS in the NCAA Tournament since 1991 (all under coach Boehiem). I’ll lean with Syracuse.

PLAY: (765) BELMONT +3
RATING: 3% PLAY

Belmont has been a machine all year and took care of Temple easily in the Play in game. Some will feel that Maryland is rested and has an advantage but I feel just the opposite. Belmont already has a game under their belt so any Big Dance nerves are gone as they took out Temple to advance. Maryland was very inconsistent this year and went 3-4 over its final 7 games. Belmont has been an Underdog just 8 times over the last 2 seasons and are a Perfect 8-0 ATS in that role. My numbers have Belmont winning by 1-3 Points.

SETON HALL +2.5

SETON HALL VS WOFFORD | 3/21 | 9:40 PM EDT
12:47 PM
Seton Hall beat Kentucky, Maryland and Villanova this season and might be playing their best ball of the season right now on a 5-0 ATS run, losing only to Villanova 74-72 in the Big East title game. Wofford comes in on a 20-game win streak covering its last seven games. It cruised through the Southern 18-0 but was blown out in early non-conference games against Miss State, Oklahoma, and Kansas. I'm on Seton Hall.

12-5 IN LAST 17 CBB ATS PICKS | +646

MICHIGAN ST. -17.5

BRADLEY VS MICHIGAN ST. | 3/21 | 2:45 PM EDT
12:01 PM
Bradley may have won the MVC Tourney, but suggesting the Braves are anything close to last season's Loyola-Chicago is crazy talk. They went 9-9 in conference play -- four other teams were better. They don't play the defense Loyola did, nor do they shoot as well, nor as talented. Michigan State is No. 3 in the nation in shooting defense at 37.8 percent and has covered 23 of its last 31 games. The Spartans should be -22.5. Michigan State is the play Thursday.

12-5 IN LAST 17 CBB ATS PICKS | +646
4-2 IN LAST 6 MICHST ATS PICKS | +172

OLD DOMINION +12.5

OLD DOMINION VS PURDUE | 3/21 | 9:50 PM EDT
YESTERDAY 8:56 PM
There was a time in January following Purdue's beatdown at Michigan State that they looked like the Boilermakers turned the corner and won eight straight. The road woes were thought gone, but they found the funk again. They couldn't cover their rating away from West Lafayette and then lost at Minnesota and 10 days later lost to the Gophers again in the Big Ten Tourney. Old Dominion loves the underdog role and beat NCAA Tourney teams like VCU and Syracuse this season. Old Dominion is the play.

12-5 IN LAST 17 CBB ATS PICKS | +646
3-2 IN LAST 5 PURDUE ATS PICKS | +72

FLORIDA +2.5

FLORIDA VS NEVADA | 3/21 | 6:50 PM EDT
The Wolf Pack look as though they've run out of gas and the effect has had them overrated for the past month. They are just 1-7 ATS in their last eight, with two losses against San Diego State and another at Utah State. The Gators had a tough stretch to close out the regular season but played well in the SEC Tournament, with two wins and a close loss to eventual winner Auburn. The Gators have covered their last four. Florida should probably be a slight favorite in this one.

12-5 IN LAST 17 CBB ATS PICKS | +646
4-3 IN LAST 7 NEVADA ATS PICKS | +79

MURRAY ST. +3

MURRAY ST. VS MARQUETTE | 3/21 | 4:30 PM EDT
YESTERDAY 4:11 PM
Murray State rides an 11-game win streak and went 27-4 on the season. Two of those losses came against SEC teams Alabama and Auburn, but the Racers covered both games. They went 19-10 ATS this season, were ninth in the nation shooting 49.6 percent from the field, and also ninth in assist to turnover ratio. I was hoping for more points but Marquette lost its last four regular-season games and was bounced as favorites against Seton Hall in the Big East Tournament; 1-5 ATS in its last six. I'm on Murray State.

12-5 IN LAST 17 CBB ATS PICKS | +646
3-1 IN LAST 4 MARQET ATS PICKS | +189

PLAY: (770) WOFFORD -2.5
RATING: 4% PLAY

After playing back to back games right down to the wire against Marquette and Villanova I feel Seton Hall has to be drained. Villanova had Seton Hall on the ropes but couldn’t close them out on Saturday as their decision making with the ball in the final 2 minutes kept Seton Hall hanging around to get the cover. Seton Hall was +7 in TO’s and Villanova missed 7 Free Throws and that is what made it just a 2 point loss for Seton Hall. Wofford will not have those kind of mistakes. In Wofford’s last 11 games they shot over 50% in 6 of the games and over 46% in all but one game. Over the last 3 seasons Wofford is 15-4 ATS when they have covered 6 or more of their last 8 games. This shows their consistency as well as the fact that they keep out performing the market. My numbers have Wofford winning by 8-10 points.

TAKE WOFFORD as MARCO’S 4% 1st RD MISMATCH GAME
