One of my favorite angles in Conference tournament action is when a Top team has a scare but gets the victory. Villanova was taken to OT yesterday by Xavier before winning by 4. Villanova was -7 so they won but didn’t cover. When this situation occurs it’s usually a great wake up call for the team and they generally deliver a big effort next time out. In fact over the last 2 seasons Villanova has won but not covered 13 times and in their next game they are a PERFECT 13-0 ATS and the average margin of victory in those 13 games was 19.3 PPG. Villanova is also 17-3 ATS on a neutral court the last 2 seasons with the average margin of victory 17.2 PPG. My numbers have Villanova winning by 9-11 points.

Tennessee has only had one bad game all year and that was at Kentucky and everything favored Kentucky in that spot. Tennessee was able to get revenge a few weeks later winning in Tennessee 71-52. UC Irvine has won 15 straight games but they've been a little bit sluggish in their first two games of the Big West Tournament. At the same time, Cal-State Fullerton might have just played their best two games back-to-back of the season. They met twice this season with UCI winning and covering both and their last six meetings have stayed Under. UCI allows its opponents to shoot only 38 percent. Florida State is playing defense as good as anyone in the entire country. Duke's defense has been Top 10 all year long. The Seminoles had gone under in seven straight games before just getting over the total of 123 1/2 versus Virginia. Leonard Hamilton's team is also 9-3 under the last 12 times they've been an underdog. Duke is 23-9-1 under in 2018-19 and 12-3 under when playing with two or less days rest. Tre Jones' defense at the point leads the way for the Dukies. Zion Williamson will be playing his third game in three days after missing the last six games. Look for Duke to take their time on offense to keep him fresh plus late in the games with a lead Coach K loves to run clock.

This is a winner-take-all game. The only way to the big dance for both teams will be a win in this game. Utah State is projected into the field of 68 however I'm not sure the MWC can get three teams. The last 10 times these two have played, eight have gone under.

Home court advantage is very important this time of year. Playing in Kansas City is home away from home for the Jayhawks. Especially when you play games in back-to-back days. Lagerald Vick has now missed 10 straight games and the freshman guards have grown up quickly. Devon Dotson has scored 15 or more in 8 of his last 11 and Quentin Grimes has scored 13 or more in 3 of the last 5. Dedric Lawson for Kansas will be the best player on the floor.

Although this remains a longshot, there's value with taking the points behind a surging team with a home-court edge and plenty of motivation.
