Free Pick on Rockies/Giants UNDER 8

I'm recommending a play on the UNDER in Saturday's MLB action that has the Giants hosting the Rockies. Colorado will send out Jon Gray, who has been throwing much better of late. Gray did give up 6 runs in his last start, but also struck out 10 hitters in a mere 5 1/3 innings of work. Prior to that he'd allowed just 1 run over his previous 19 1/3 innings.

Good bounce back spot here for Gray against a struggling Giants offense that hasn't topped 3 runs in 3 straight games. Gray also owns a strong 2.35 ERA and 1.109 WHIP in 3 career starts against the Giants. San Francisco will counter here with Chris Stratton, who I think will be able to keep Colorado from going off here.

UNDER is 32-18 in the Rockies last 50 when playing on a road trip of 4 or more, 15-4 in their last 19 after 2 straight games without committing an error and 15-5 in their last 20 games when listed as the favorite. Take the UNDER!

10* FREE MLB PICK (Phillies +119)

I'll take my chances here with Philadelphia securing a win over the Cardinals on Saturday. St Louis won yesterday in blowout fashion, as they won 14-2. Wasn't a big surprise for the Cardinals, as Wacha had been outstanding at home so far this season. Now it's the Phillies that have the edge in starting pitching. Philadelphia will send out Zach Eflin, who has been outstanding in his first 2 starts, giving up just 1 run on 7 hits with 13 strikeouts in 12 2/3 innings of work. St Louis will send out John Gant, who had all kinds of struggles in his first outing back on 5/7 against the Twins. I look for another poor showing here from Gant and the Phillies to win this going away. Give me Philadelphia +119!

DMack's Free Play for Saturday, May 19, 2018, is on the Tampa Bay Lightning

The road team has won all four games of this series with the Caps taking Games I and II here and the Bolts winning games III and IV in Washington. The Bolts restore some order here with a home win tonight. Tampa Bay sniper Steven Stamkos has scored power play goals in all four games and the Lightning have had the better guy between the pipes. Not sure that the Caps fragile playoff psyche can withstand giving away both home games.

Boy, you talk about going through rough times, how about the lowly Los Angeles Dodgers ,who continue to sink in the National League West. Quite frankly, you know it is getting bad when the San Diego Padres have more wins and are playing better.

I'll take the Washington Nationals on the Run Line as my free winner.

The Dodgers (17-26) are close to being surpassed by the Padres in the West, as San Diego has just two more losses.

The Dodgers have lost six of seven, and despite a win yesterday, it's become quite apparent after losing nine of its last 11, that Los Angeles is one of the four-worst teams on the senior circuit.

The Nationals have won four in a row, and the pitching is coming along nicely. The Nationals rank fourth in the league with a 3.39 ERA and have the No. 3 home ERA at 3.08.

That won't bode well for Los Angeles, which can't hit the ball right now.

All Nationals, and make note, all Run Line/Total plays automatically list pitchers with the starters who are scheduled to go at the time of the wager. But with this game I am not concerned with who goes for either team tonight and want you playing this game on the Run Line regardless. That being said, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to be sure you have action even if one of the pitchers scheduled to start is scratched, by re-wagering the game if that takes place.

Take the home team.

5* NATIONALS RUN LINE

My free play is the Pittsburgh Pirates over the San Diego Padres. And I want you listing Nick Kingham ONLY in this showdown.

The Pirates have won three of four and will look to rebound from last night's loss to the Friars. Pittsburgh boasts the fourth-best batting average (.260) in baseball, and that number grows to .278 when we're talking about home batting average. That number is second-best in the bigs.

The Pirates also have the fourth-best number of plated runs this season, with 218. They're riding high in first place in the National League Central, thanks to an 8-3 win streak.

The Padres, meanwhile, are still in last place in the National League West. Think about this, the Dodgers have lost nine of 12 and are arguably playing the worst baseball in the majors right now. And San Diego is still beneath them in the West.

Now the Padres face Kingham, who was brilliant in his MLB debut not too long ago. He was sent back down, and now has another start for the Bucs. He'll make the most of it.

Take Pittsburgh here.

1* PIRATES (listing Kingham only)
