The Boston Red Sox continue to struggle. They have lost four of their last five and just lost as -260 favorites to the Blue Jays yesterday. I’m backing the Blue Jays to win again here Thursday.
Marcus Stroman is one of the most underrated starters in baseball. He has posted a 3.18 ERA and 1.261 WHIP in 18 starts this season. Stroman owns the Red Sox, going 6-3 with a 3.34 ERA in 14 career starts against them.
In fact, Stroman is 2-1 with a 1.23 ERA in his last six starts against the Red Sox, allowing just 5 earned runs in 36 2/3 innings. That includes one earned in 19 innings in his last three starts against them. Enough said. Bet the Blue Jays Thursday.

The Philadelphia Phillies and the Atlanta Braves will play their third game of the series after splitting the first two. Zach Eflin (7-7 3.34 ERA) of the Phillies battles Mike Soroka (9-1 2.13 ERA) of the Braves. Don’t let these ERAs fool you, the Phillies should win this game. Soroka was hit by a pitch last week and seemed a little off in his last start when he gave up seven hits and two earned runs in 6 ⅓ innings against a New York Mets team that was in an offensive slump. Eflin has been Philadelphia’s best pitcher so far this season and the team has scored 19 runs in his last two starts. The Phillies have been hot against the Braves of late having won seven of the last 10 against Atlanta. The Phillies (35-27) are also a better team against RHP that the Braves (37-30). Philadelphia is 6-3 SU in their last nine games and has a great opportunity to get another win in Atlanta today.

The Phillies have won seven of their last 10 and I like the price we are getting with them here Thursday against the rival Atlanta Braves, who they are chasing down in the NL East standings. I like Zach Eflin, who is 7-7 with a 3.34 ERA in 16 starts this year. Eflin has never lost to the Braves, going 2-0 with a 1.57 ERA and 0.74 WHIP in three previous starts against them, giving up only 4 earned runs in 23 innings. Give me the Phillies.

The set-up: Hamilton’s 3-0 to start the year and I think it’ll keep the foot on the gas for at least one more week. Last week Hamilton annihilated Montreal by 31 points and I expect a similar beatdown here as well. Hamilton QB Jeremiah Masoli so far has 924 yards over three games, while his favorite target Brandon Banks leads the league with 334 yards receiving. Montreal comes into this one having lost ten in a row dating to last year.
The pick: Note that the Als are just 1-5 in their last six in this series and in their five losses they’ve posted a total of only 52 points (that’s an average of 10.4 PPG.) And that’s bad news for this beleaguered Montreal defense, as Hamilton has so far posted a total of 128 points over its first three victories, which averages out to 42.6 PPG (but note, the defense for Hamilton has been even better, allowing an average of only 13.6 PPG thus far!) This one has “blowout” written all over it. Consider laying the points on Thursday night.

I'll take my chances here with Pittsburgh staying hot at home against division rival Chicago. Pirates scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th to stun the Cubs 6-5 on Wednesday for their 3rd straight win. Pittsburgh has now won 10 of their last 12. Chicago has lost 4 straight and are in the midst of an ugly 4-9 stretch. I just don't think Jose Quintana is the guy to get them out of their funk. Quintana was strong in his last outing, but still has a 5.87 ERA and 1.696 WHIP in his last 3 starts. Cubs have lost 6 of his last 7 outings. Give me the Pirates +109!

The Washington Nationals and Miami Marlins get things going early on Independence Day, in our nation's capital. And my free pick is on the Nationals on the run line.

Miami, on the other hand, couldn't dare compare with a paltry offense that has the fifth-worst batting average (.238) in the league.
