2012 NASCAR Odds – Bojangles’ Southern 500 – Jimmie Johnson Favored

DARLINGTON, SC (TheSpread) – The 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races under the lights this week with the running of the Bojangles’ Southern 500 from Darlington Raceway.

According to oddsmakers, Jimmie Johnson is the favorite to win this race, with 6/1 odds. Five other drivers come in with 8/1 oddds to win the race.

Johnson is eighth in the point standings, 54 points out of first place. He has four top 5’s and seven top 10’s this year, but is winless for the season. Johnson has two wins at Darlington with an average finish of 100.6. His driver rating at this track is 100.6, which ranks fourth in the series.

Of the drivers with 8/1 odds, Jeff Gordon has the best stats at Darlington. He has seven wins in his career here with an average finish of 11.1. His driver rating at Darlington is best in the series, at 116.2. Gordon is struggling this year, as he sits 23rd in the points standing, 146 points out of first. He has just one top 5 on the year.

Another driver with strong numbers at Darlington is points leader Greg Biffle. He has two wins with an average finish of 14.2. His driver rating is 109.7, which ranks second in the series. This season, Biffle has a 7 point lead in the standings as he has one win and six top 5’s for the year. Biffle has 8/1 odds to win this week as well.
