Tampa Bay Lightning at Winnipeg Jets (-140, 6)

Steven Stamkos has his final chance to become the 20th NHL player to reach 60 goals in a single season when his Tampa Bay Lightning visit the Winnipeg Jets in the season finale for both on Saturday.

Stamkos needs one goal to become only the second player to reach the milestone since the 1995-96 season.

Stamkos recorded nine goals in the last eight games and has a career-high 96 points – 11 behind league-leader Evgeni Malkin of Pittsburgh. He is not the only Lightning player reaching milestones. Martin St. Louis has at least 25 goals in nine consecutive seasons – a franchise record -- after scoring at Toronto Thursday.

Power forward Ryan Malone is three points shy of matching his career high of 51. Dwayne Roloson is expected to get the start in goal in what could be his final NHL game. Roloson is 4-2-1 in his last seven starts and has 226 career victories.

Tampa Bay has just 12 road victories, tied for last in the league and could have trouble in front of a wild Winnipeg crowd.

Pick: Jets

Carolina Hurricanes at Florida Panthers (-175, 5)

The Florida Panthers’ 10-year playoff is over and if they can earn a single point against Carolina, they will clinch their first Southeast Division title.

"We feel that Saturday night is something for our home fans. We want to go out and repay them,” coach Kevin Dineen told reporters.  "We've got a loyal group that have seen a lot of hockey over the last couple years. We want them to walk out of that game Saturday night with a good feeling."

The Panthers are 20-9-2-9 at home this season, but have dropped three straight in front of their loyal supporters. The good news is they picked up a point in each of those losses.

If Florida does pick up a point, it will play New Jersey in the first round, not the New York Rangers. That’s some major motivation for Dineen’s troops, but this price is awfully steep.

Pick: Under

Hockey Night In Canada: NHL Betting Preview
By Bill McBride
Covers.com

Toronto Maple Leafs at Montreal Canadiens (-120, 5.5)

Quick, take a picture. Because neither team is going to look like this ever again. Indeed, there will be changes aplenty on both sides of this rivalry come the summer, as Toronto and Montreal attempt to start over. For now, we have one more chapter in this fierce feud before the offseason overhauls begin.

Shouldering a skate

One player that's a part of Toronto's long-term plans, as well as one whose absence was glaring as the season fizzled away, is forward Joffrey Lupul. He was on his way to a memorable season (25 goals, 67 points, and 48 penalty minutes) when the winger separated his shoulder on March 6. The Maple Leafs have never recovered.

You can imagine people's encouragement and enthusiasm, when news broke Thursday that Lupul, a 2002 first-round draft pick by Anaheim, was on the ice for the team's morning skate prior to the game versus Tampa Bay. But he won’t play Saturday, so consider it nothing more than a preview of what lies ahead.

Count on Kaberle

While you won't see Lupul, you will see Canadiens defenseman Tomas Kaberle, a former Maple Leaf, who has also been sorely missed by his team. Kaberle, traded by Carolina to Montreal on Dec. 9 for defenseman Jaroslav Spacek, missed nine games with an upper-body injury, but was in the lineup during a 2-1 loss to Carolina Thursday.

Kaberle hasn’t had a terrible season. A year after winning the Stanley Cup with Boston, he has three goals, 31 points and just 12 minutes in penalties.

The plus-minus rating - at minus-19 headed into Saturday - is a disaster. But keep in mind, he's played for the Canadiens and Hurricanes, two of the worst teams in the league.

Dion’s delivering

Though not many were around to see it - the city was hooked on the Blue Jays' epic opening-day marathon win over Cleveland at the same time - Dion Phaneuf scored the winner Thursday night in Toronto's home finale. It was a 3-2 win over Tampa Bay and ended a miserable home schedule for the Maple Leafs, who heard it from the crowd toward the end of the season.

Through it all, give credit to Phaneuf, who has persevered and has overcome his label of being a part-time player when he was with Calgary. He has 11 goals, 43 points and is a minus-8 on a bad team. He also has 90 minutes in penalties and hasn’t been afraid to scrap and defend his franchise's honor through one of its worst seasons.

And as the season closes, he's still out there firing. In fact, he has 15 shots in his last seven games, as well as eight blocks in his last four.

History

Good news to get out of town for Toronto? The road team has won the last four meetings in this great rivalry. And the under has hit in five of the last six installments. The Canadiens have lost five out of six overall.

Edmonton Oilers at Vancouver Canucks (-235, 5.5)

The schedule makers probably thought this would be a matchup soaked in playoff implications, with teams jockeying for position and playing to the final second with their seasons on the line. Well, Vancouver has some seeding issues to battle for, but that’s about it for this nightcap.

Get to them early... or else

Depending on how some of the out-of-town scores shake down before they take the ice Saturday, the Canucks may have a shot at the league's top spot headed into the postseason, and that's certainly something to fight for. But, more importantly, Vancouver just wants to have all of its ducks in a row as the regular season closes.

This team had home-ice advantage for the Stanley Cup final last year and lost at home to the Bruins in Game 7, igniting chaos on Vancouver’s streets. So, maybe it's better if they have to take to the road for some pivotal playoff contests this time around.

Either way, the key in the postseason for this team, especially with the way they've closed the season, is holding a lead after two periods. The Canucks have showed grit and determination on the backline - things that were absent last year - and are 31-1-2 when leading after two periods this season.

Jordan Rules

Hard to even remember that great start Edmonton had this season. On Nov. 3, the Oilers shut out Los Angeles 3-0 and improved to 7-2 as thoughts of postseason play danced through their heads.

Fast forward six months, and the Oilers are headed nowhere. A 3-2 overtime loss to Anaheim Thursday closed out a disappointing home season for Edmonton, which will finish next to last in the Western Conference only because of the inadequacy of Columbus.

But give credit to forward Jordan Eberle, who just keeps on going through the malaise. He scored for the Oilers Thursday and now has 34 goals, 76 points and is a plus-5 on a bad team. Somehow, though, he hasn't lost his cool. In fact, he has just eight minutes in penalties all season.

Counting on Chris

It's going to take a strong finish for him to get to 20 goals on the season, but it's been a solid year for Vancouver forward Chris Higgins either way. He has 18 goals, 43 points and just 16 penalty minutes headed into the finale and is playing his best hockey of the season at the right time.

He was scoreless on two shots in the loss to Calgary Thursday, but still has five goals in his last seven games and has been a true workhorse. In fact, against the Flames, Higgins took 24 shifts.

History

The Canucks have won seven of the last eight meetings between these two in Vancouver, and have also won four of the last five in this series overall. Edmonton, meanwhile, is 0-4-1 over/under in its last five games.

Final Regular Season Saturday Makes For A Busy Canadian Day
Sportspic.com

It's usually busy for hockey fans in Canada on a Saturday but it's going to get cranked up a gear for the final Saturday of the regular season.

There are a few tasty NHL betting matchups to check out, even though none of them have any serious playoff implications. Two of the Canadian teams will make their way to the postseason and they'll bookend the day's action.

Give these previews a spin as we wrap up a wild regular season.

Ottawa Senators @ New Jersey Devils

The Senators are safely in after no one expected them to reach the postseason in Paul MacLean's first season as the head coach in Canada's capital. He has to be considered as an NHL betting dark horse for the Jack Adams Trophy for the work he has done. The emergence of All-Star defenseman Erik Karlsson has clearly helped but MacLean's steady hand behind the bench has gotten the Senators through some tough times.

The Devils are one spot ahead of the Sens in the Eastern Conference in sixth and they've quietly gone about their business, although you have plenty of credit to Ilya Kovalchuck for a great season. If they can get a favorable matchup in the first round, such as Florida, the Devils have an excellent chance to build some momentum and head to the second round.

A 1-0 shutout on March 20th was the Devils' first win in Ottawa in five games and you may want to check the lineups beforehand as both teams may choose to rest some players.

Anaheim Ducks @ Calgary Flames

Both of these teams are eliminated from the playoffs and in Calgary, there are question marks all over the place. Will Brent Sutter remain the team's coach? Will they break up an aging core of Jarome Iginla, Olli Jokinen and Miikka Kiprusoff? Should they just blow up the team and start from scratch like their rivals in Edmonton did?

The Ducks could never really get it together this season despite having a decently talented roster and now their attention will turn to Teemu Selanne, the ageless wonder who led the team in scoring at 41-years-old. Will he retire or won't he? That will be the theme of their offseason.

A loss to finish the season would be a tough blow to the Flames' faithful fans but the Ducks have won two of their last three in Calgary.

Toronto Maple Leafs @ Montreal Canadiens

These Original Six rivals are limping into what will be a critical offseason for both. The Maple Leafs started off hot and then completely collapsed in the second half of the season. They keep finding new ways to lose games, as proven by their 6-5 overtime loss in Buffalo after getting up 3-0.

But they may get a break from NHL Betting sharps on Sunday as Carey Price suffered a concussion and practice and has been shut down for the season by the Habs, so look for Peter Budaj to finish out the season in Montreal.

The Maple Leafs have won three of the five meetings this season with the Canadiens, including twice in Montreal.

Tampa Bay Lightning @ Winnipeg Jets

Jets fans can't complain about their season and they turned out in great numbers to help make the MTS Center a fortress. However, Winnipeg couldn't win away from home and that was the reason they missed the playoffs. If they can boost their road play even a little bit next season, they'll be a popular pick among NHL Betting cappers.

The Lightning had a disappointing season, but sniper Steven Stamkos has helped make the end of the season bearable with his hunt for 60 goals. He had 58 goals as of Wednesday night, leading the Penguins' Evgeni Malkin by 10 markers, although Malkin has 20 more assists to put him in the points lead.

Winnipeg has taken away a victory in three of their five meetings with the Lightning during the regular season and two of those wins came at…..you guessed it, the MTS Center.

Edmonton Oilers @ Vancouver Canucks

The final game of the night comes from Vancouver where the Canucks are still among the betting lines leaders to win the Stanley Cup, and they're also in a race with the New York Rangers for the Presidents' Trophy. But they'd probably trade that for a healthy Daniel Sedin, although he is reportedly on schedule to join the team for the playoffs.

The young Oilers never had a chance this season but they played some exciting hockey and the future is bright. Taylor Hall suffered a few injuries, as did Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, but you have to think the latter is still the favorite to snag the Calder as the league's top rookie.

The Oilers have lost four of their last five in Vancouver but the Canucks may rest a few regulars, so keep your eyes and ears peeled for any game time information.

Pens End Home Skid Against Philly Rivals
Sportspic.com

Most online betting players know that Pittsburgh and Philadelphia don’t like each other, and last Saturday’s contest boiled over into a fight-filled end to a win for the Flyers. In a potential preview of a first-round playoff matchup, expect a physical hands-on clash that will be more about setting a tone than three points, but give the edge to Pittsburgh.

Why Bet On Philadelphia Flyers

The Flyers fell 5-3 at home to the New York Rangers on Tuesday night, giving up four goals in the first period and it wasn’t a banner night for goalie Ilya Bryzgalov, who stopped just 19 of the 24 shots he faced. Scott Hartnell, Wayne Simmonds and Jakub Voracek found the scoresheet, while Claude Giroux added three assists, but it’s tough to come back from a four-goal deficit, especially against the best team in the conference. The power-play was atrocious, going 1-of-8 on the night and it’s always difficult to take a loss when you outshoot a team 40-24. The Flyers will have their final home game on Thursday night against Buffalo, who are still trying to fight their way into a playoff spot, so they can’t take their foot off the gas yet because the Sabres will be coming for them.

They’ll also have to go into battle without former Sabre Daniel Briere (back), who is injured in last Saturday’s melee (the hit on Briere was the spark that lit the fire), and their NHL Betting Odds for the playoffs could be impacted by his absence. Defenseman Andrej Meszaros (back) and forward James va Riemsdyk (foot) are also on the mend and could be back at some point in the postseason, but the loss of Briere really hurts as it could have been avoided, although replays show it was a completely clean hit by Pittsburgh’s Joe Vitale. The Flyers could be out for blood in this game against the Penguins, but they have to play smart hockey.

Why Bet On Pittsburgh Penguins

The Penguins dropped the defending Stanley Cup champions from Boston by a score of 5-3 on Tuesday night in an impressive road win, and Sidney Crosby led the way with a pair of goals along with an assist. Aaron Asham, Paul Martin and James Neal also lit the lamp, while Brent Johnson gave Marc-Andre Fleury the night off and stopped 26 shots for the Penguins, who scored on two of their four chances with the man advantage. It was a big win for the Penguins, away from home against a team that they could have to go through to get to the Stanley Cup, and Crosby is getting better with every game after missing the better part of more than a year because of his concussion problems. He also had to brush aside the “punk” comments made by analyst Mike Milbury (who has since apologized) as he thought Crosby was the one who started the mess last Saturday with a few slashes to the back of Brayden Schenn’s legs, who then cross-checked the Penguins’ captain and that could have put a target on Briere. Crosby didn’t really have much to say about Milbury’s comments, and went out and had a big game, like he always seems to do.

The aforementioned Vitale (face) took a puck to the face against the Bruins, but he should be fine for the Flyers and he’ll have to keep his head up because the Flyers will be looking for retribution. Winger Steve Sullivan (undisclosed) was limping after the Boston game, so you’ll have to check the injury report before making your call. This is going to be a very physical game between teams that don’t like each other and the Penguins’ main concern should be to get through it without any major injuries because Philadelphia surely isn’t happy about losing Briere.

How It Will Play Out

You would think that NHL Betting Odds would favor the Penguins at home, and they probably still will, but the Flyers have won five in a row in Pittsburgh and six of their last seven overall. The Flyers seem to thrive in the hostile environment of their opponent’s home rink, and they put the screws to the Penguins in last week’s 6-4 win in Pittsburgh.

The game will likely start off with some fisticuffs and then settle into an actual game, and the Penguins should be able to end their home jinx against the Flyers with their best players, Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, stepping up to the plate. Also, Fleury didn’t play that well last Saturday and he’ll have the upper hand against Bryzgalov (or whoever is in the Philadelphia goal). Take Pittsburgh in your sports betting picks.
