Texas won its last six games vs Oklahoma, with all six wins by 10+ pts; they beat Sooners 77-49 in Big 12 tourney last March. Oklahoma won three in row, six of last seven games, losing at Arkansas team that also upset Texas at home; Sooners are 5-5 vs spread this year when favored. Charleston is 3-1 in Southern Conference, losing by 4 to Davidson, but winning other three games by 8-15-13 points, losing at North Carolina 108-70 in between. SoCon home favorites are just 6-10 against spread. Samford runs lot of Princeton offense, this is their first year in SoCon; they're 1-6 on road, losing league road games by 7-21 points.

Big Monday Tip Sheet
By Judd Hall

The college action has officially moved from the gridiron to the hardwood as league play has begun and the bowl season has ended. That means ESPN can come through with some top shelf Big Monday cards for us to watch and wager on. This week’s we’ll get a pair of major battles in the Big East and Big XII.

Notre Dame Fightin’ Irish at Louisville Cardinals

--Las Vegas Sports Consultants opened the Cardinals as seven-point home favorites with the total coming in at 142.

--Louisville (11-3 straight up, 7-7 against the spread) has won both home games that they have had against the Irish. However, Notre Dame covered the spread in those contests. The Cards won 90-85 as 7½-point home favorites in spite of being outrebounded 38-32 when they played last year.

--The Cardinals have won three consecutive matches SU since their hiccup against UNLV, but covered the number just once in that time. Their most recent win came in a 61-60 decision as 2 ½-point road ‘dogs to Villanova. The ‘Ville needed all 12 points and 14 rebounds that Terrence Williams picked up against the Wildcats…that includes his game winner with 7.4 seconds remaining in the second half.

--Notre Dame (12-3 SU, 5-5 ATS) opened up Big East play with a thud in losing to the Red Storm in New York City on Jan. 3 as an 8½-point “chalk,” 71-65. Mike Brey’s squad has bounced back with two straight victories since that loss in the Big Apple.

--On Saturday, Luke Harangody scored 30 points with 16 boards in the Irish’s 88-79 win as 15 ½-point home favorites against Seton Hall. Tory Jackson and Kyle McAlarney were also big contributors for ND, putting up 18 points each.

--The Irish have been a solid fade when tabbed as road/neutral ‘dogs, going 2-7 SU and 3-6 ATS in their last nine matches under these criteria. The ‘over’ is 8-1 in this same time frame.

--Louisville is practically automatic when named a home “chalk” as evidenced by a 23-3 SU mark. Unfortunately for bettors they’re 12-12 ATS with the ‘under’ going 15-7.

--This game will get started at 7:00 p.m. EST.

Texas Longhorns at Oklahoma Sooners

--LVSC have installed the Sooners as slight three-point home favorites with the total holding low and steady at 137.

--The Longhorns closed out their non-conference schedule with a lackluster effort by losing to Arkansas as 4½-point road favorites, 67-61, on Jan. 6. Texas (12-3 SU, 6-6 ATS) didn’t let that loss linger too long in its 75-67 triumph over the Cyclones, but failed to cover the 17½-point line they were favored by.

--Gary Johnson paced the winners with 17 points and nine boards. Junior forward Damion James also did his part by accounting for a team high 19 points in the win.

--Something that fans of the ‘Horns have surely noticed is the absence of A.J. Adams from the high side of the ledger. The senior sniper posted just eight points against Iowa State on Jan. 10. He scored a combined 24 points in his last three starts. Compare that to when he scored no less than 20 points in five of the six matches Texas played between Dec. 4 and Dec. 23. Part of his issues are the fact that he’s shooting 25 percent from beyond the arc in the last three tilts; Abrams connected on 47.7 percent of his three-point attempts during December.

--Oklahoma (15-1 SU, 6-5 ATS) has just one loss this year and it also came against the Razorbacks, 96-88, on Dec. 30. Since that setback, the Sooners have won three straight fixtures, covering the number in the lone betting shop affair against K-State.

--Blake Griffin once again proved how dominant he can be by leading all scorers with 29 points and 15 boards. The rest of the Sooners had just 22 rebounds amongst the rest of them. We shouldn’t be surprised with his prowess around the glass as he leads the nation with 14.0 rebounds per game.

--While the Sooners have the better record, it’s Texas who is controlling this rivalry. The Longhorns have won six straight tilts with Oklahoma, both SU and ATS. Bettors have been able to expect low scoring contests between these two Big XII foes as the ‘under’ has cashed in four straight meetings.

--Gamblers might want to lay off the Longhorns to cover here as they’re 4-4 SU and ATS when tabbed as road pups. But they should look at the ‘over’ as it is 6-2 in that situation since last season.

--As far as the Sooners are concerned, a money line play could be in order since they’re 17-1 SU but 10-8 ATS when set as home favorites. The ‘over’ has gone 11-7 in the last two years in this situation.

--The tip-off for this showdown is 9:00 p.m. EST.

Can't-miss college hoops games
By MATT SEVERANCE

With no more college football to take up your weekday nights, it's time to really focus on college basketball for the next three months. With that said, we will provide you with an early look at the most intriguing matchups to start each week. And then on Fridays, you can check back in this space for a look at the best of the weekend's slate.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Louisville Cardinals

Louisville is playing its eighth straight nationally televised game and it has started 2-0 in the Big East for the first time despite playing two conference road games.

This will be the second of three straight games against ranked foes (UL edged Villanova on Saturday and faces No. 1 Pitt this Saturday). The Cards haven't faced three straight ranked teams in a row since 1997 and once went 66 games in Conference USA without playing a single ranked opponent.

"I've looked forward to this year more than any other," Cards coach Rick Pitino told reporters. "You'll never see 12, 13 teams as tough as this."

Texas Longhorns at Oklahoma Sooners

Horns star guard A.J. Abrams has been smothered by opposing defenses, hitting just 19 of his past 66 shots and reaching double-digits in scoring just once in the past five games. Forward Gary Johnson has stepped up for UT, averaging 16 points and 9.5 rebounds per game in the past five.

"I feel like the team needs an extra boost,'' Johnson said. "A.J. is getting tougher defenders, and Damion is also getting tougher defense every night, so I feel like somebody has to step up and take on the challenge for us.”

According to the Austin American-Statesman, UT coach Rick Barnes is talking about using a jumbo package of 6-foot-10 Dexter Pittman, 6-for-10 Connor Atchley, 6-foot-7 James, the 6-foot-6 Johnson and the 5-foot-11 Abrams as a part of his rotation. All that size certainly would come in handy against OU's Blake Griffin.

Re: NCAAB News and Notes Monday 1/12

(13) Notre Dame (12-3, 4-5 ATS) at (23) Louisville (11-3, 7-7 ATS)

The Fighting Irish shoot for their third straight win tonight when they visit Freedom Hall to take on Louisville in the latest Big East showdown between Top 25 squads.

Notre Dame has recovered well since dropping its opening Big East game at St. John’s on Jan. 3, scoring a pair of home wins over Georgetown (73-67 a week ago tonight as a three-point favorite) and Seton Hall (88-79 on Saturday, coming up short as a 15-point chalk). The Irish have won six of their last seven overall (2-2 ATS), but they are just 2-4 ATS away from South Bend.

Louisville has rattled off three straight wins (2-1 ATS), including two Big East road wins in the last five days, first going to South Florida and getting a 71-57 victory as an 11-point favorite and then upsetting Villanova on Saturday 61-60 as a two-point ‘dog in Philadelphia. The Cardinals are 8-1 SU (5-4 ATS) at Freedom Hall, with the only setback being a 56-55 loss to UNLV on Dec. 31 as a 13½-point favorite.

The host has won all three matchups between these two the last three years, but Notre Dame has cashed in each outing. Last year at Freedom Hall, the Cardinals scored a 90-85 victory, but came up short as 7½-point favorites.

Notre Dame has covered the number in each of its last five after an non-cover, but the Irish are just 1-4-1 ATS in their last six Monday games and 1-4 ATS in their last five after a straight-up win. Louisville is 26-7-2 in its last 35 Big East games and 4-1-1 in its last six Monday outings, but the Cardinals are just 1-5 ATS in their last six at Freedom Hall and 6-20-2 their last 28 at home against teams with a winning road record.

For the Irish, the over is on runs of 20-7 in Big East action, 15-6 after a straight-up win, 11-3 on the road against teams with a winning home record and 7-3 on Mondays. Conversely, Louisville is on “under” streaks of 17-6-1 at home, 35-17-1 after a straight-up win, 5-1 after a spread-cover and 6-0 on Mondays. Finally, the over has easily hit in the last two series meetings in Louisville, with both games finishing with a combined 175 points.

ATS ADVANTAGE: NOTRE DAME

(7) Texas (12-3, 6-6 ATS) at (6) Oklahoma (15-1, 6-5 ATS)

The Longhorns are looking for their seventh straight win over rival Oklahoma when they visit the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman in a key Big 12 clash.

Texas is 6-0 SU and ATS against the Sooners since last losing in January 2006. The ‘Horns beat Oklahoma three times last season, including a 64-54 win and cover in Norman, and a 77-49 blowout victory as a 5½-point favorite in the Big 12 tournament semifinals in March. Texas is 5-1 ATS in its last four trips to Oklahoma and the favorite is 4-1 ATS in the last five.

The Longhorns come in off Saturday’s 75-67 home win over Iowa State in their Big 12 debut, but they failed to cash as 16½-point favorites. Texas is 1-1 SU and ATS in its two true roadies, dropping the last one 67-61 at Arkansas on Tuesday as a 4½-point chalk. The Longhorns have scored at least 68 points in all but two games (both losses).

Since suffering its first defeat of the season – also at Arkansas – Oklahoma has won three straight overall (1-0 ATS), including Saturday’s 61-53 Big 12-opening win at Kansas State, cashing as a one-point favorite. The Sooners were held to a season-low point total in the win, as they had scored at least 69 points in their first 15 games. Oklahoma is unbeaten through nine games at home, averaging 83.7 points a game and shooting 48.1 percent from the floor while limiting visitors to just 62.6 points per contest and 36 percent shooting.

Texas is 23-8 ATS in its last 31 Monday contests, but the ‘Horns are just 2-5 ATS in their last seven after a straight-up win and 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven Big 12 contests. Oklahoma is 5-1 ATS in its last six at home against teams with a winning road mark, but the Sooners are in ATS ruts of 8-18 in conference play, 2-7-1 on Monday and 1-5 ATS after a spread-cover.

For the Longhorns, the under is on stretches 21-8-1 on Mondays, 15-6 after a non-cover and 4-0 after a straight-up win. Oklahoma has stayed under the total in 17 of its last 25 Monday games, eight straight Big 12 games and four of five against winning teams. Also, in this rivalry, the under is 4-1 in the last five meetings.

ATS ADVANTAGE: TEXAS and UNDER

Re: NCAAB News and Notes Monday 1/12

Notre Dame at Louisville Big Monday Winning Breakdown
By: Craig Trapp

Preseason rankings has both of these Big East schools in the top 10. Notre Dame has definitely had a better season thus far but Louisville is still ranked in the top 25 and are very tough on there home court. Odds makers have made Louisville a 7 point favorite in this big east early season match up. Last year Notre Dame went to Freedom Hall and played them very well but losing 90-85. This one should be a very important game for both teams with post season seeding on the line.

Louisville is a very talented team but have had a few unexpected road losses. But at home Louisville is very tough only losing once with a home record of 8-1. Young post play and outside shooting has been poor in there early season let downs. Don't expect any let downs as the last two games against UK and Villanova they seem to have fixed these problems. This game will probably come down to Earl Clark and his ability to dominate the less athletic big men for Notre Dame. Louisville must have this win if they are going to have any chance to win the Big East title this year.

Notre Dame has the most experience of any of the top Big East teams. They start all juniors and seniors and team chemistry is always a huge advantage for them. Luke Harangody is the returning Big East player of the year but this season he has not played quite as well. Early in the season he missed several games due to illness but seems to be getting healthier and think he will get his average 20 plus points and 10 plus rebounds. The difference maker on this team is Kyle McAlarney and his very good outside shooting. Ask North Carolina this year this kid can really shoot the ball he scored from everywhere when they faced off this year. Notre Dame knows that if they want to win the conference they must win on the road against at least three of the top tier teams.

Big East conference is the top conference in NCAA this year. Right now they have eight top 25 teams and will most likely have nine teams in the NCAA tournament. Odds Makers are not usually wrong but this point spread seems a little high considering Notre Dame's experienced veteran team and the result of last years game at Freedom Hall. Very high scoring game with both teams getting in the 80's. Take Notre Dame as my underdog pick of the week.

Craig's pick: NOTRE DAME +7
