Philadelphia (6-2) at L.A. Dodgers (4-4)

Now just one win away from their first trip to the World Series in 15 years, the Phillies will hand the ball to ace Cole Hamels (16-10, 2.97 ERA), who is set to oppose Chad Billingsley (17-11, 3.35) in Game 5 of the best-of-7 National League Championship Series at Dodger Stadium.

Philadelphia stormed back from a 5-3, eighth-inning deficit on Monday and stunned the Dodgers 7-5, scoring four runs in the eighth inning thanks to a pair of two-run home runs by Shane Victorino and Matt Stairs. It marked the first win by the road team in 12 head-to-head meetings between these teams this year, and in fact the Phillies snapped a six-game losing skid at Dodger Stadium with the win.

The Phillies carry a bunch of positive streaks into this game, including 20-7 overall, 7-3 on the road (2-2 in the playoffs), 8-1 against the N.L. West, 21-8 versus teams with a winning record, 24-9 against right-handed starters, 12-3 after an off day and 4-1 with Hamels on the hill (2-0 in the playoffs). Also, since getting swept in a four-game series at Dodger Stadium in early August, Charlie Manuel’s club has ripped off seven wins in eight tries against Los Angeles.

The Dodgers are now 1-10 in their last 11 games against N.L. East competition. However, despite falling in a 3-1 hole in this series, they remain on runs of 23-11 overall, 20-7 at home, 9-3 against southpaw starters, 9-2 after a defeat, 6-1 following an off day and 4-1 on Wednesdays. L.A. is also 5-2 in Billingsley’s last seven starts overall and 6-1 in his last seven outings at home.

Hamels locked down the Dodgers in Game 1, giving up just two runs on six hits and two walks with eight strikeouts in seven innings en route to a 3-2 victory. Hamels has faced the Dodgers three times in his career – all this season – and posted identical numbers of two runs allowed in seven innings in each contest, going 2-0 with a 2.57 ERA while walking a total of four and striking out 20. However, in his one outing at Dodger Stadium, he got a no-decision in his team’s 4-3 loss.

Hamels has given up two earned runs or fewer in five straight starts and 11 of his last 12, and he’s 2-0 with a 1.20 ERA in his two playoff efforts in 2008, both of which came at home. On the highway this year, the lefty went 7-3 with a 3.19 ERA in 16 trips to the mound.

Billingsley was brilliant in his first career playoff start in Game 2 against the Cubs on Oct. 2, allowing a run on five hits in 6 2/3 innings of a 10-3 road win. However, he followed that up with his worst and shortest stint of the season in Friday’s 8-5 Game 2 loss at Philadelphia. The young right-hander gave up all eight runs (seven earned) on eight hits and three walks in just 2 1/3 innings.

Prior to Friday, Billingsley had faced the Phillies three times over the past two regular seasons, going 1-1 with a 4.01 ERA. On the bright side, he was awesome at Dodger Stadium this year, going 10-4 with a 2.95 ERA in 17 appearances (16 starts).

The over is 6-0-1 in Billingsley’s last seven starts overall (2-0 in the playoffs), but the Phillies have stayed low in each of Hamels’ last four outings, including both in the postseason.

The over is 19-7-2 in the last 28 head-to-head clashes at Dodger Stadium, including 4-1-1 this year and 2-0 in this series. Also, the over for the Dodgers is on streaks of 5-2 overall, 5-1 at home, 5-1 against the N.L. East, 9-3-3 versus lefty starters and 6-0 on Wednesdays. Finally, since Game 1 in both League Championship Series’ stayed under the total, the over is on a 6-0 run in the ALCS and NLCS.

ATS ADVANTAGE: OVER

EDM Oilers / ANA Ducks
Take EDM Oilers

A little deja vu taking place in Anaheim, with the Ducks playing uninspired hockey out of the gate for the second straight year. This team is very talented and should eventually get things right, but they just arent sharp at present. Its just the second game for Edmonton as the usual bizarre NHL scheduling has had the Oilers mostly sitting at home and watching. But they looked pretty good in their opening win, scoring a late goal to get a 3-2 win. The Oilers are one of the fastest teams in the league and with the Ducks having played Tuesday night, I like the fresher Edmonton legs to have some success tonight. Im backing Edmonton at decent road dog odds.

Jimmy The Moose

Phoenix Coyotes at Chicago Blackhawks
Prediction: Under

The under is 1-1 in the Coyotes two games this season but if you go back to last season the under is a profitable 8-3-1 in their last 12 road games. The Blackhawks have played the under once this season and it was in their only home game of the year. The under is a profitable 11-5 in Chicago's last 16 home games. The under is 11-2-1 in the Coyotes last 14 trips to Chicago. The under is 20-7-2 in the last 29 meetings between the clubs. Look for another low scoring game tonight. Play the under.

3* PHILLIES -118

Cole Hamels has been lights out thus far in the playoffs. No reason to believe the trend won't continue here against a Dodger lineup that, as we pointed out in our NLCS preview, is vulnerable to lefties. While Billingsley is no slouch for LA, he faces a Phillies lineup that mashes righties and that is feeling hot right now.  Phillies feel supremely confident with Hamels on the mound and the Dodgers have to be reeling after tough loss Monday. Dodgers may have home field advantage, but Phillies were decent on the road this year and the rest of the advantages are theirs: better pitcher, hotter lineup, and all the momentum.

The Rangers are 5-0 to start the season and they are 6-2 going back to last season vs. an opponent that scored 5 or more goals in their last game. New York is 42-20 their last 62 home games and they are 5-1 vs. the Northeast division. Buffalo is 8-20 their last 28 games vs. winning teams and they are 3-12 vs. Atlantic Division foes. The road team is 3-8 the last 11 games in this series. PLAY ON NY RANGERS -

Re: WEDNESDAY SERVICE PLAYS

Ben Burns

Game: Phoenix Coyotes at Chicago Blackhawks
Prediction: Chicago Blackhawks

The Hawks lost a tough one last time out, falling in a shootout vs. the Predators. Coach Denis Savard noticed improvement though, saying: "I thought it was a much better performance. They worked and battled better than they had." Despite their slow start, the Hawks still have high expectations for this season. This is their best team in several years and they'll be highly motivated to earn their first victory this evening. Note that they're still 5-1 their last six home games, dating back to last season.

Unlike the Hawks, the Coyotes are off to a 2-0 start, upsetting Anaheim by a 4-2 score last time out. However, if we look at the last couple of seasons, we find the Coyotes at 19-26 (-4.2) when coming off a game in which they scored four goals or more AND a money-burning 13-23 (-6.9) when coming off a victory by two goals or more.

The Hawks are 4-1 the last five meetings in this series and I look for them to earn their first victory of the season tonight. Consider Chicago

Philadelphia Phillies -120

Mr A

Philadelphia Phillies at Los Angeles Dodgers

The Dodgers are in a do or die game tonight against the energetic Phillies, down 3-1. Los Angeles sends staff ace Chad Billingsley to the mound, hopeful to keep them alive. Billingsley was outstanding in the regular season, a 16-game winner. However, the right-hander lost his only start against Philadelphia in the regular season, surrendering three runs and seven hits in six innings and was clobbered in Game 2 of the NLCS, allowing a season-high eight runs, eight hits and three walks in 2 1/3 innings. Philadelphia counters with their ace Cole Hamels. The lefthander won his 2 starts this postseason, allowing two runs, striking 17 over 15 innings.

Take the Phillies with Hamels on the hill to be in command and end the defending World Series champions’ playoff run.

Philadelphia Phillies -120

Philadelphia Phillies at Los Angeles Dodgers

Philadelphia Phillies are 7-1 in the last 8 meetings, 6-1 in the last 7 at Dodger Stadium. Take the Phillies with their ace Cole Hamels on the hill to move on to the World Series.

Rocketman Sports

Philadelphia / LA Dodgers
Play: 1* Dodgers +110

LA Dodgers bullpen has a 3.33 ERA overall this year and a very nice 2.47 ERA at home this season. Billingsley is 10-4 with a 2.87 ERA at home this year. LA Dodgers are 5-1 at home vs Philadelphia this year. Dodgers are 6-1 in their last 7 games following an off day. Dodgers are 9-2 in their last 11 games following a loss. Dodgers are 13-3 in their last 16 home games vs. a left-handed starter. Dodgers are 13-3 in their last 16 home games vs. a team with a winning record. Dodgers are 4-1 in their last 5 games vs. a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15. Dodgers are 4-1 in their last 5 after scoring 5 runs or more in their previous game. Dodgers are 4-1 in their last 5 Wednesday games. Dodgers are 4-1 in their last 5 when their opponent allows 5 runs or more in their previous game. We'll recommend a small play on the LA Dodgers tonight!

Re: WEDNESDAY SERVICE PLAYS

LT Profits

Nashville Predators @ Dallas Stars Over 5.0

Now we normally like to look for Unders early in the NHL season as we feel that totals are usually inflated the first couple of months, but this matchup between the Nashville Predators and the Dallas Stars appears to be an exception.

The Stars opened the season with a wild 5-4 overtime loss vs. the Columbus Blue Jackets, and then they were understandably fatigued when the lost 5-1 to the Predators at Nashville the very next night. They have now had three days off since that game on Saturday, and that fact plus the return home and the revenge angle should all equate to an improved offensive performance.

What has been more disappointing so far has been the performance of goaltender Marty Turco, who has a 3.91 GAA with a very low 86.4 percent save percentage. The Predators have had success against Turco recently, as well as vs. the Stars in general, averaging 3.60 goals per game in the last five head-to-head meetings.

This is not the first time that Turco has started slowly, so look for both teams to find the back of the net enough to push this contest Over the total.

Pick: Predators, Stars Over 5

Re: WEDNESDAY SERVICE PLAYS

Sports Gambling Hotline

Philadelphia at LOS ANGELES

Philadelphia and Los Angeles have now combined for 3 straight OVERS in this NLCS, and with the batters locked in, and now getting a second look at both Cole Hamels, and Chad Billingsley in less than a week, we believe these teams will elcipse the total.

Hamels was rock solid in the series opener, working 7 strong while allowing just 2 earned runs to score. The same cannot be said for Billingsley who was charged with 7 earned runs in just 2 innings of work!

In this series at Dodger Stadium, the teams are on a 10-1-2 OVER clip the last 13 times they have played each other.

That stat is enough to convince us that tonight's game is also going OVER the posted price.

Play on the OVER.
