Senators acquire F Stillman, D Commodore, send F Eaves, D Corvo to 'Canes
ASSOCIATED PRESS

OTTAWA (AP) -The Ottawa Senators have acquired forward Cory Stillman and defenseman Mike Commodore from the Carolina Hurricanes for forward Patrick Eaves and defenseman Joe Corvo.

Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford says Stillman waived a no-trade clause to complete the deal.

He and Commodore will each be unrestricted free agents at the end of the summer. Commodore had been the Canes' leader in penalty minutes this season with 74 and Stillman was their fourth-leading scorer with 21 goals and 24 assists.

The Senators lead the Eastern Conference, but had made very few changes from the team that lost to Anaheim in last year's Stanley Cup.

Both Stillman and Commodore were part of Carolina's championship team in 2006.

Flyers forward Simon Gagne sidelined with third concussion of season
ASSOCIATED PRESS

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -Philadelphia Flyers forward Simon Gagne is sidelined following his third concussion of the season, yet the former All-Star hopes to return before the end of the season.

Gagne was injured on his first shift of the Flyers' 4-3 loss at Pittsburgh on Sunday and sat out the final two periods. Gagne, who has seven goals and 18 points in 25 games, was examined Monday by the Flyers team doctor.

''I don't think the season is lost right now,'' Gagne said. ''Hopefully, I'm not going to have any more symptoms coming up. The way I feel right now is just a balance problem. When this goes away, I will be pretty much symptom free.''

Gagne suffered a concussion on Oct. 24, sat out four games, then had another concussion on Nov. 7 and missed the next 26 games. He said his symptoms were worse after the last two concussions.

Shoulder injury sidelines Weight

MRI exam shows no tear in his left shoulder.

DENVER -- Ducks center Doug Weight will be out for at least a week because of a strained left shoulder.

Weight, who had an MRI exam Monday in Anaheim, is expected to go on injured reserve. The 37-year-old center had his shoulder heavily wrapped after Saturday's practice.

No tear was found in the shoulder during the MRI exam. The Ducks plan to treat the injury with rest and rehabilitation.

Coach Randy Carlyle said Weight first injured the shoulder early in the trip and aggravated it last week during the Ducks' win over the New York Islanders.

Weight has five goals and nine points in 26 games since joining the Ducks in a trade with St. Louis for center Andy McDonald on Dec. 14. Weight has only one point in his last 12 games, a goal against the Islanders.

Ducks General Manager Brian Burke said he was among many who were interested in center Peter Forsberg, but the injury-plagued Swedish star ruled out Anaheim as a destination as he tries to return to the NHL.

Forsberg's former teams, the Colorado Avalanche and Philadelphia Flyers, appear to be the favorites in landing him, with the Flyers being the most aggressive suitor. Forsberg has been troubled by a bad right foot for the better part of the last two years.

Burke said there was nothing to a Canadian Broadcasting Co. report Saturday that he was looking at acquiring Kings defenseman Rob Blake. The report suggested that Blake would want to stay on the West Coast if he were asked to waive his no-trade clause.

As a reward for the Ducks' four-game winning streak on this eight-game trip, Carlyle called off a scheduled practice and took the team bowling at a downtown shopping mall.

TONIGHT

at Colorado, 6:30 PST, Versus

Site -- Pepsi Center.

Radio -- 830.

Records -- Ducks 31-22-7, Avalanche 30-21-5.

Record vs. Avalanche -- 1-0-0.

Update -- Offensive depth has allowed Colorado to persevere despite the loss of venerable captain Joe Sakic, gritty winger Ryan Smyth and talented young center Paul Stastny to lengthy injuries. Forwards Milan Hejduk, Marek Svatos and Andrew Brunette have picked up the slack.

Re: Hockey Today - Feb 12

Tuesday NHL Gameday

Eric Staal and the Carolina Hurricanes will be looking to get on the winning track on Tuesday when they travel to Boston to take on the Bruins. Here's your NHL Gameday:

Carolina Hurricanes at Boston Bruins, 7:00pm ET

The Canes might be just one point back of the Capitals for first place in the Southeast Division, but they're also currently outside of the Top 8 in the Eastern Conference. Carolina has lost three of their four games so far in the month of February, and they were pounded 6-1 by the Devils on Saturday night. Keith Aucoin had their only marker.

The Bruins have also lost three of their four games so far in February, and they also gave up six goals on Saturday (losing 6-3 to the Panthers). Zdeno Chara, Glen Murray, and Marco Sturm scored for Boston in that contest, while Tim Thomas was victimized for those six goals on just 27 shots. The Bruins are holding down 8th place in the East.

Buffalo Sabres at Ottawa Senators, 7:30pm ET

Buffalo has been racking up points in February, with four wins and two overtime losses over their six contests this month. The Sabres are coming off a 5-3 win over the Panthers on Sunday night, with Derek Roy scoring two goals and Brian Campbell picking up three assists. Ryan Miller allowed three goals on 25 Florida shots in the win.

The Senators have found their scoring touch again over the past two games, thanks to the return of both Dany Heatley and Daniel Alfredsson to the lineup. Ottawa romped to a 6-1 win over the division-rival Canadiens on Saturday night, with Heatley, Alfredsson, and Jason Spezza combining for 15 points. Ray Emery stopped 33 of 34 Montreal shots.

Anaheim Ducks at Colorado Avalanche, 9:30pm ET

The Ducks won their fourth game in a row on Sunday afternoon, knocking off the conference-leading Red Wings by a final score of 3-2. Mathieu Schneider, Kent Huskins, and Ryan Carter all scored for Anaheim in that win, while J-S Giguere made 27 saves. The Ducks have allowed just four goals over their four-game winning streak.

Colorado has managed to improve their standing in the West by winning three of their five games so far in the month of February. The Avs came up with a big 3-1 win over the Sharks last Wednesday, and they beat the Canucks 6-2 on Saturday. Milan Hejduk and Marek Svatos each scored twice Saturday, and Jose Theodore picked up 23 saves.

Calgary Flames at San Jose Sharks, 10:30pm ET

The Flames lost three of their first four February matchups, but they bounced back with a 4-1 win over the rival Oilers on Saturday night. Owen Nolan led the way for Calgary in that game with two goals, while Dion Phaneuf had a goal and an assist, and Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 14 of 15 shots. The Flames are 13-10-1 so far on the road this year.

The Sharks have won two straight games heading into this matchup with the Flames, topping the Blue Jackets 2-1 last Friday and the Predators 4-3 on Saturday. Jonathan Cheechoo had a four-point night (including a hat trick) against Nashville, while Evgeni Nabokov had to make just 10 saves. San Jose is still comfortably in the West's Top 8.
