- Mikael Samuelsson, Red Wings, scored two first-period goals to help Detroit advance to the Western Conference finals with a 2-0 win over San Jose in Game 6.

SHUTOUTS

Dominik Hasek posted his 13th career playoff shutout Monday night, stopping 28 shots as Detroit won its third straight over San Jose, 2-0 to advance to the Western Conference finals against Anaheim.

MOVING ON

Detroit advanced to the Western Conference finals for the first time since winning the Stanley Cup in 2002, beating San Jose 2-0 Monday night to win the series 4-2. The Red Wings won just one playoff series in three previous seasons despite winning at least 48 games in each, earning two Presidents'' Trophies as the NHL''s best regular-season team. They open the next round Friday at home against Anaheim.

SWINGS

After managing just two assists in Detroit''s first 10 playoff games, Mikael Samuelsson scored his second and third goals in two games Monday night, as the Red Wings advanced to the Western Conference finals against Anaheim with a 2-0 shutout of San Jose.
