Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Bills are 4.5-point favorites to beat the Dolphins. The total, meanwhile, sits at 39.5 points. As of this writing, 57% of the public betting tickets are on the Bills to cover the point spread.
Miami Dolphins
According to the Miami Herald, the Dolphins are prepared to move on from Ryan Tannehill after this season rather than pay him the $19 million he's owed over the next two years. None of Tannehill's 2019-2020 scheduled pay is guaranteed, so it will be an easy cord to cut. By releasing or trading Tannehill, the Fins would save $13.2 million under the 2019 salary cap, or $18.7 million if he's designated a post-June 1 cut. Amid reports the front office will also be cleaned out, the Dolphins' organization appears headed for a near-full overhaul this offseason.
Buffalo Bills
Josh Allen completed 20-of-41 passes for 217 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in the Bills' 24-12, Week 16 loss to the Patriots, adding five carries for 30 additional yards. It was another "growing pains" game for Allen, though he was fingertips away from 107 yards worth of touchdowns with Robert Foster. The UDFA lost an 82-yard bomb in the sun in the first quarter. He later could not haul in a 25-yarder against tight Stephon Gilmore coverage. Both of Allen's interceptions were inexcusable lofts. Bad decisions and soft throws from a quarterback with a ridiculous cannon. Despite his fantasy upside, Allen will enter his first pro offseason needing to work on every last aspect of quarterbacking.
NFL Betting Trends
Miami
The under is 5-1 in the Dolphins’ last six divisional games and is 6-2 in their last eight road games.
Buffalo
The over is 20-8 in the Bills’ last 28 home games but the under is 9-4 in their last 13 games overall.
Prediction
The Dolphins couldn’t move the ball last Sunday at home against an unmotivated Jacksonville defense that had not played well on the road all season. I don’t expect the warm-weather Dolphins to go up to Buffalo and suddenly turn it on offensively. Buffalo has a solid defense and lacks explosiveness on offense. That’s a perfect recipe for the under.
NFL Week 17 Prediction: Dolphins/Bills under 39.5
