Odds say Coughlin won't be back
Do oddsmakers believe that Tom Coughlin will be the head coach of the Giants for Week 1 of the 2016 NFL season?
The answer to that question is no, as oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv currently the list odds of Coughlin returning to the Giants next season as +150. The odds that Coughlin won't be the head coach in New York for Week 1 of the 2016 season are -200.
As the Giants prepare to face the Vikings on Sunday Night Football this week, they're currently 6-8 on the season and still in the hunt to win the NFC East. If they don't make the playoffs, it will be the fourth straight year that the Giants haven't qualified for the postseason after winning the Super Bowl in 2011.
Coughlin has led the Giants to two Super Bowl victories over the Patriots since becoming head coach in 2004. He's also taken the team to five playoff appearances over that span but the Giants have made just one postseason in their last seven seasons.
It might be difficult for the front office in New York to fire Coughlin considering he's won two Super Bowls for the franchise. But a mutual parting might be in the cards if Coughlin doesn't want to lead a full re-build. The Giants desperately need to add more talent on both sides of the ball, more so on defense than offense.
