Browns vs. Panthers Spread Prediction

Cleveland Browns vs. Carolina Panthers, 12/9/18 Week 14 Predictions

The Carolina Panthers’ playoff hopes are on life support following four straight losses. Will they snap their losing streak with a win over the Cleveland Browns Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET?

Game Snapshot

109 Carolina Panthers at 110 Cleveland Browns

1:00 p.m. ET, Sunday, December 9, 2018

FirstEnergy Stadium, Cleveland, OH

Public Betting Trends

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, this game is now a pick’em after the Panthers opened as 2.5-point favorites to beat the Browns. The total, meanwhile, sits at 47.5 points. As of this writing, 58% of the public betting tickets are on the Panthers to cover the point spread.

Carolina Panthers

Cam Newton (shoulder) wasn't listed on the Panthers' final injury report for Week 14 against the Browns. Newton's status was never in question. He finished out the week with a full practice on Friday. Cam and the slumping Panthers will try to halt a four-game losing streak Sunday at Cleveland.

Cleveland Browns

David Njoku (knee) wasn't listed on the Browns' final injury report for Week 14 against the Panthers. Njoku was upgraded to full participation at Friday's practice, which prompted his removal from the injury report. Lining up against a struggling Panthers defense, Njoku will be an acceptable TE1 for the first week of the fantasy postseason.

NFL Betting Trends

Carolina

The Panthers are just 1-5 against the spread in their last six road games and are 0-4 at the betting window in their last four games overall.

Cleveland

The Browns are 16-37-1 against the spread in their last 54 games overall and have dropped 19 of 27 at the betting window at home.

Prediction

The Panthers have lost four consecutive games following a 6-2 start and are playing on the road for the fourth time in five games and the second in two weeks. They have not scored more than 21 points during their last five road games. Baker Mayfield, meanwhile, has been a different quarterback since Hue Jackson and Todd Haley were fired a month ago. He owns a 129.5 passer rating, a 74-percent competition rate and nine touchdowns to just one interception in his three previous games before a rough Sunday last week in Houston. I like Mayfield and the Browns to rebound on Sunday and essentially end the Panthers’ playoff hopes in 2018.
