Miami Dolphins Fantasy Spin
Dolphins placed RB Kalen Ballage on injured reserve with a leg injury, ending his season. The exact nature of Ballage's injury remains unclear. Ballage was quite literally historically bad before going down, averaging a mind-numbing 1.82 yards on 74 carries. Since the 1970 AFL/NFL merger, no runner with that many carries had averaged below 2.25 yards per carry. Ballage is simply the easiest player in the NFL to tackle. Although he does not turn 24 until later this month, Ballage figures to be on the outside looking in of a 2020 53-man roster spot following this year's disastrous display.
New York Jets Fantasy Spin
Le'Veon Bell (illness) is out for Week 14 against the Dolphins. Players rarely miss games with illnesses, but things happen. The Jets will turn to Bilal Powell and Ty Montgomery on Sunday against an awful Dolphins defense. It's still hard to trust these backs as confident plug-and-play options because of how inconsistent the Jets offense is, but Powell has been the more utilized backup in recent weeks. Expect Bell, who has averaged a league-worst 3.2 yards per carry behind this New York offensive line, to return in Week 15.
NFL Betting Trends
Miami
The Dolphins have covered the spread in six of their last eight games overall but have failed to cover in 13 of their last 18 on the road.
New York
The Jets have failed to cover the spread in nine of their last 11 divisional games and are winless against the number in their last four games as a favorite.
Prediction
Le’Veon Bell isn’t the only player that is injured for the Jets. Their top defender, safety Jamal Adams, is also doubtful while linebacker C.J. Mosley, who has been sidelined since Week 7, was placed on injured reserve with a groin injury. The Dolphins, meanwhile, beat the Jets earlier this season and have won four straight meetings versus New York. Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for 365 yards and three touchdowns in last week’s upset of the Eagles, while DeVante Parker is finally living up to his first-round billing. Miami’s defense can still be had, but there’s little debating the Dolphins play hard for head coach Brian Flores.
