San Francisco 49ers Fantasy Spin
Coach Kyle Shanahan said he's "optimistic" Matt Breida (ankle) returns in Week 14. Breida was reportedly expected to suit up in Week 13, but was ultimately sidelined once again. Raheem Mostert balled out and worked well ahead of Tevin Coleman last week, but the two RBs formed more of a 50/50 committee in Weeks 11-12. Jeff Wilson continues to siphon away a few snaps and touches per game. Adding Breida to this mess would only further lower the floor of everyone involved. Wilson would likely be the odd man out, but touches could be hard to come by in this potential three-RB committee.
New Orleans Saints Fantasy Spin
Drew Brees completed just 18-of-30 passes for 184 yards and one touchdown in the Saints' 26-18, Week 13 win over the Falcons on Thanksgiving. With the win, the Saints clinched the NFC South title. Brees' 60% completion rate was a season low, along with the 184 yards, but it was enough to get the job done against the lowly Falcons. Brees' score went to Taysom Hill of all people, as Hill dominated the night with a rushing and receiving score. Brees will be more of a QB2 next week at the Superdome against the 49ers.
NFL Betting Trends
San Francisco
The 49ers are 4-0 against the spread in their last four games as an underdog and 4-0 against the number in their last four games as a road dog.
New Orleans
The Saints are 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 games overall but have failed to cover in seven of their last 10 home games.
Prediction
This is a bad scheduling spot for the Niners, who traveled to Baltimore last week and played a physical game against the Ravens, only to turn around a week later and head to New Orleans. That said, there are small cracks starting to form in the Saints’ foundation. The Falcons harassed Drew Brees four weeks ago in New Orleans and after soundly beating an under-.500 Bucs team in Tampa, the Saints returned home and needed a miracle missed field goal in a win over the double-digit underdog Panthers at home. Last week, the Saints sacked Matt Ryan 682 times and still had to survive two onside kick recoveries by Atlanta in the end. I think that San Francisco front four harasses Brees like Atlanta did, especially with the Saints offensive line banged-up. We’re not getting much value here in the 49ers only catching two points, but my gut says the Niners win outright anyway.
