Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Titans are 4.5-point favorites to beat the Jaguars. The total, meanwhile, sits at 37.5 points. As of this writing, 53% of the public betting tickets are on the Titans to cover the point spread.
Cody Kessler will be the Jaguars' starting quarterback going forward. A textbook game manager, Kessler will be tasked with handing the ball off and avoiding turnovers for the Jaguars' final five games. Kessler has some intriguing options at receiver, but the Jags' run-heavy emphasis and inability to establish the wideout depth chart will make Kessler a low-ceiling fantasy option. He will struggle for QB2 value, including this week against the Colts.
Marcus Mariota completed 20-of-35 passes for 282 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in the Titans' 26-22, Week 13 win over the Jets. Mariota was also the team's leading rusher with 42 yards on five attempts. The Titans were getting creamed early, losing 16-0 at one point deep into the second quarter. But Mariota ended up hitting Anthony Firkser for a 12-yard score with 57 second to half to get the Titans on the board. The teams continued to trade field goals, but Mariota then hit Corey Davis for an 11-yard score on 3rd-and-6 with 36 ticks left in regulation to win the game. Mariota has now strung together back-to-back good games after his injury-aided dud in Indy three weeks back. Tennessee will host the Jaguars in Week 14. Mariota will be more of a mid-range QB2 with upside.
NFL Betting Trends
The Jaguars are 6-2 against the spread in their last eight games played in the month of December.
The Titans have covered the spread in eight of their last 11 games after accumulating more than 350 total yards in their previous game.
The Jaguars showed a week ago in their 6-0 win over the Colts that they haven’t quit on Doug Marrone but they still scored just six points against an Indianapolis team that does not have the same defensive firepower as Tennessee. The Titans have been inconsistent all season on offense so it’s a risk laying points with this team but they’re at home off a short week and they have the playoff aspirations, so motivation shouldn’t be an issue. The Jaguars are also just 1-4-1 ATS in their last six games against the Titans, so backing Tennessee also means backing the more profitable team in this series.
