Lions vs. Raiders Week 9 Prediction
The Lions are coming off a win over the Giants but aren’t receiving much respect from oddsmakers, who have installed Detroit as a 2.5-point underdog versus Jon Gruden's Raiders on Sunday. That said, are the Lions a good bet to pull off the upset this afternoon in Oakland?

Detroit Lions Fantasy Spin
Lions placed RB Tra Carson (hamstring) on injured reserve. Carson was a surprise starter for the Lions last week, but a hamstring injury will end his season. With Carson on injured reserve, Ty Johnson becomes more attractive as a flex play in Oakland this week. The Lions, however, did activate Paul Perkins from the practice squad, but Johnson is the clear favorite for touches.
Oakland Raiders Fantasy Spin
Josh Jacobs rushed 15 times for 66 yards, tacking on two catches for another 15 yards in Oakland's Week 8 loss to the Texans. Coming in banged up with a shoulder injury, Jacobs struggled to get anything going following the departure of C Rodney Hudson (ankle) on a cart in the first quarter. It didn't help that Richie Incognito's fourth quarter holding penalty negated a 12-yard first down run, pushing the sticks back to 2nd-and-20 rather than 1st-and-10. The rookie also continued ceding passing-down work to both Jalen Richard (2/24) and DeAndre Washington (1/14). Now pacing for 283/1,417/9 in his first year as a pro, Jacobs remains a strong RB2 whose ceiling remains untapped given his lack of targets. He'll be a borderline RB1 if Damon Harrison and Mike Daniels stay sidelined for Detroit's trenches in Week 9.
Detroit
The Lions are 5-1 against the spread in their last six road games and are 15-5-1 at the betting window in their last 21 games when facing an opponent with a losing record.
Oakland
The Raiders have covered the number in five of their last six home games but are just 16-38-1 at the window in their last 55 games after covering the spread in their previous contest.
NFL Week 9 Prediction
The Lions are 3-0-1 against the spread in their last four meetings with the Raiders while the underdog has the same 3-0-1 ATS record in the last four meetings between these two teams. Beyond the historical trends, the Raiders have a real issue at the interior of their offensive line. Starting center Rodney Hudson is expected to miss multi weeks with an ankle injury and won’t play today versus the Lions. His backup, Andre James, was also sidelined at practice on Wednesday after suffering his own ankle injury last Sunday in Houston. Richie Incognito would slide to center in place of Hudson and James and even though he’s a veteran and a capable of starter, communication could be an issue today along Oakland’s offensive line. The center is the focal point to everything. On top of that, the Lions have a clear advantage when they go to their passing game, as the Raiders are banged-up in their secondary and lack depth after trading Gareon Conley to the Texans two weeks ago. With their own injury concerns at running back, the Lions will likely put the ball in the air early and often.
