New York Jets Fantasy Spin
Sam Darnold (thumb) was removed from the Week 9 injury report. Darnold's status was never in doubt after practicing all week. He'll have a brace on his non-throwing thumb, so it won't impact his passes. After struggling with turnovers the last two weeks, Darnold has a get-right matchup with Miami
Miami Dolphins Fantasy Spin
Mark Walton rushed 11 times for 35 yards in the Dolphins' Week 8 loss to the Steelers. He added three catches for 19 yards on six targets but also lost a horrible fumble in Pittsburgh territory when he had the ball poked out from behind. Walton has averaged 13.3 touches per game in his three weeks as the starter but has yet to find the end zone. He should see 12-18 touches next week in a winnable game at home against the Jets where Walton will be an RB3/FLEX.
NY Jets
The Jets are 3-7 against the spread in their last 10 road games and are 2-7-1 against the number in their last 10 games overall.
Miami
The Dolphins have failed to cover the spread in four of their last five home games and are 3-7 against the number in their last 10 games overall.
NFL Week 9 Prediction
Both of these teams are extremely banged-up. The Dolphins placed cornerback Xavien Howard (knee) on injured reserve this week and fell defensive back Ken Webster is dealing with an ankle injury. The Jets, meanwhile, are expected to be without linebacker C.J. Mosley (groin) and cornerback Trumaine Johnson is also listed in their injury report because of injuries to both of his ankles. In other words, these two teams are a respective mess. With the way the Dolphins played in the first half in Pittsburgh on Monday, bettors might be tempted to grab the field goal in a spot where Miami could pick up its first win of the season. That said, the Jets have the key matchup here, as running back Le’Veon Bell will face a Miami defense that has been shredded on the ground this year. Granted, the Dolphins have also been had through the air but with the way Sam Darnold has struggled since returning from mono, Adam Gase is likely to lean on Bell and his ground game today in Miami. The Jets are 15-5-1 against the spread in their last 21 games in Miami while the favorite is also 5-2-1 against the number in the last eight meetings.
