49ers vs. Cardinals TNF Prediction

2019 49ers kittle01

The 49ers will put their undefeated record on the line tonight when they visit the Cardinals at 8:20 p.m. ET. While the Niners should walk away with another straight up victory, is 10 points too much to lay on a road team in a divisional matchup?

Game Snapshot

301 San Francisco 49ers (-10) at 302 Arizona Cardinals (+10); O/U 43

8:20 p.m. ET, Thursday, October 31, 2019

State Farm Stadium, Glendale, Arizona

Public Betting Odds

According to our NFL Public Betting Chart page, the 49ers are drawing 66% of the betting tickets ahead of Thursday night’s game.

San Francisco 49ers Fantasy Spin

Matt Breida (ankle) is questionable for Week 9 against the Cardinals. Raheem Mostert (knee) is also questionable. Jeff Wilson was forced from Sunday's game with a head injury but would be in line for backup reps behind Tevin Coleman if both Breida and Mostert can't go. Whatever the case, Coleman needs to be upgraded further following his four-score outburst against the Panthers. Wilson isn't the worst FLEX in a pinch since the Niners are two-score (-10) favorites.

Arizona Cardinals Fantasy Spin

David Johnson (ankle) is questionable for Week 9 against the 49ers. Johnson was upgraded to limited participation for Wednesday's practice. Even if he does suit up, coach Kliff Kingsbury said Arizona's backfield will be a "running back by committee" regardless, pitting Johnson in a timeshare with Kenyan Drake, Zach Zenner and Alfred Morris. Consider Johnson a low-end RB2/3 if he's declared active for Thursday against the Niners.

San Francisco

The 49ers are 5-11 against the spread in their last 16 conference games but have covered in five of their last seven games overall.

Arizona

The Cardinals have failed to cover in five of their last seven home games.

Thursday Night NFL Prediction

This is a lot of points to lay on a road team in a divisional game but I simply do not like the matchup for the Cardinals. The 49ers have pounded the ball down everyone’s throats to this point, averaging 181.1 rushing yards per game, which ranks second in the NFL only to Baltimore. How has Arizona fared against the run, you ask? Not well. The Cardinals are surrendering more than four yards per carry to everyone opponent outside of Baltimore and Carolina (that’s only because Arizona allowed more than five yards per carry to those teams). As fantasy owners are aware, the Cardinals have also had issues slowing down opposing tight ends, which is problematic for tonight, as they’ll face one of the league’s best in George Kittle. This could certainly be a letdown for the Niners, who are traveling on a short week and playing an overmatched opponent. That said, if San Francisco is focused, this could also be a rout. I’ll play the matchup.

NFL WEEK 9 PREDICTION: San Francisco 49ers -10
