Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Vikings are 1-point favorites to beat the Saints. The total, meanwhile, sits at 52 points. As of this writing, 52% of the public betting tickets are on the Saints to cover the point spread.
New Orleans Saints
Drew Brees completed 22-of-30 passes for 212 yards and two touchdowns in the Saints' 24-23, Week 7 win over the Ravens. The scores were Nos. 500 and 501 of Brees' Hall-of-Fame career. He is just the fourth member of the 500-touchdown club. The Saints were methodical in the road victory, rushing 39 times while trying to gobble up clock. No. 2 quarterback Taysom Hill remained extremely involved as a red zone gadget player. Hill is little more than a nuisance, though he is curbing both Brees and Alvin Kamara's ultimate upside. The Saints are headed on the road to Minnesota's dome for Week 8.
Minnesota Vikings
Vikings coach Mike Zimmer declined to say if DE Everson Griffen (personal) will play Week 8 against the Saints. Griffen missed more than a month dealing with mental health issues, but he returned to the team on Wednesday. "We’re just going to see how he comes back," Zimmer said. "The focus is seeing how he’s doing, and work him in a little bit, and we’ll decide at the end of the week." Griffen has recorded double-digit sacks three of the last four seasons.
NFL Betting Trends
New Orleans
The Saints are 4-0 against the spread in their last four games overall and 17-5 against the number in their last 22 road games.
Minnesota
The Vikings are 35-15-2 against the number in their last 52 home games and 46-21-1 against the spread in their last 68 games overall.
Prediction
Brees and the Saints feel like a team of destiny this year. The Rams are drawing the most attention in the NFC but this Saints team is a Super Bowl contender. The Vikings defense has been as dominant this season as it was a year ago and Brees and Co. nearly pulled off the upset in Minnesota back in January. The Saints get a small measure of revenge for that loss and I love getting Brees in a pick’em situation.
