NFL Week 8 Point Spread & Betting Report

The Patriots and Jets will wrap up Week 7 on Monday night but most of the spreads have been released for Week 8’s action, starting with the Redskins-Vikings matchup on Thursday night. Which game has the biggest spread? What about the highest total?

Biggest Week 8 Spread

The game on Thursday night between the 1-6 Redskins and the 5-2 Vikings has the largest point spread at Minnesota -16, followed by the Dolphins-Steelers matchup on Sunday. Despite losing two quarterbacks already to injury, Pittsburgh is a 14.5-point home favorite versus the visiting Dolphins on Sunday. That’s how bad things are for Miami, which did cover as a 17-point road favorite versus Buffalo in Week 7, but ultimately fell to 0-6 on the year. As of this writing, there are two other double-digit spreads in Week 8: The Rams are 12.5-point home favorites versus the 0-7 Bengals, while the Patriots are 10.5-point favorites versus the visiting Browns.

Smallest Week 8 Spread

After opening as a 3.5-point home underdog when the lookahead lines were released last week, the Bills are now a 1.5-point home favorite versus the visiting Eagles at 1:00 p.m. ET. Philadelphia is coming off an ugly loss to the Cowboys in Dallas on Sunday night, which may have impacted the line for Sunday’s game in Buffalo. Other small lines include the Titans (-2.5) over the Bucs, the Seahawks (-3.5) over the Falcons and the Packers (-3) over the Patrick Mahomes-less Chiefs.

Highest Week 8 Total

Given Atlanta’s defensive issues this season, it’s not surprising to see that the highest total for Week 8 belongs to a Falcons’ game. The Atlanta-Seattle over/under currently sits at 54, making it the highest total in Week 8. That said, if Matt Ryan (foot/ankle) can’t play, it’ll be interesting to see how much both the spread and total are adjusted by oddsmakers. Either way, the Seahawks figure to see plenty of support from public bettors this week. The only other total sitting in the 50s this week is the matchup in Houston, where the Texans will host the Raiders at 4:25 p.m. ET. The over/under for that game has been bet up from 48 to 50.5.

Lowest Week 8 Total

Points could be at a premium in Chicago on Sunday and oddsmakers know it, which is why the Chargers-Bears over/under is sitting at 40.5. That’s the lowest Week 8 total, although the Redskins-Vikings and Jets-Jaguars matchups have over/unders of 41, while the Panthers-49ers total in Santa Clara is 41.5.

Largest ATS Move

Thus far, the Bills jumping from 3.5-point underdogs to 1.5-point home favorites versus the Eagles represents the biggest line move in Week 8, although similar movement has occurred in the Dolphins-Steelers matchup. Pittsburgh opened as a 10.5-point favorite but the line has already jumped to 14.5. The Lions have also gone from a 3.5-point home favorite over the Giants, to a 7-point favorite following New York’s loss to the Cardinals on Sunday. With Mahomes injured, the Packers-Chiefs game went from a pick’em up to KC +3.
