Giants vs. Panthers Total Prediction
The New York Giants continue to struggle offensively despite having plenty of weapons on that side of the ball. Will their game on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers fall under the betting total?
Game Snapshot
457 New York Giants at 458 Carolina Panthers
1:00 p.m. ET, Sunday, October 7
Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte, North Carolina
Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Panthers are 6.5-point favorites to beat the Giants. The total, meanwhile, sits at 43.5 points. As of this writing, 64% of the public betting tickets are on the Ravens to cover the point spread.
New York Giants
Sterling Shepard (back) appeared to be practicing on Thursday. We won't know his participation level until the Giants release their injury report later this afternoon, though ESPN's Jordan Raanan noted that Shepard appeared to be practicing "in some capacity." Getting in a limited session Thursday would bode well for his Week 5 status. Shepard will take a two-game touchdown streak into Sunday's matchup with Carolina.
Carolina Panthers
Greg Olsen (foot) was officially "limited" in Thursday's practice. Olsen will not return for Week 5, but he more or less admitted he is eyeing Week 6. Olsen will be at extreme risk of re-injury, but he's a no-brainer add in the leagues where he was cut loose when it appeared he was dealing with an indefinite injury.
NFL Betting Trends
New York
The under is 4-1 in the Giants’ last five road games.
Carolina
The over is 8-3 in the Panthers’ last 11 games overall.
Prediction
The over is 5-2 in the last seven meetings between these two teams but I don’t trust the Giants’ offense. Their line hasn’t given Eli Manning time and when they do, he hasn’t delivered. Saquon Barkley and Odell Beckham Jr. are explosive players but the Giants continue to be stuck in neutral offensively. I don’t see this one going over.
NFL Week 5 Prediction: Giants/Panthers under 43.5
