Jags slip up vs. Titans
The Jaguars followed up their big 31-20 win over the Patriots by suffering a 9-6 loss to the Titans at home last week. Jacksonville is now 2-1 on the year, 2-1 against the spread and 2-1 with the under. Despite the setback, the Jags have covered the spread in seven of their last nine games.
Jacksonville still has been led this season by its defense, allowing only 14.7 points and 304 yards per game. Their pass defense is among the best in the NFL, allowing just 188.7 yards per game. On offense, the Jags are putting up just 19 points and 345 yards per game. Leonard Fournette has missed the last two games with a hamstring injury, putting a lot on Blake Bortles. He has thrown for 707 yards and five touchdowns with two interceptions. Fournette has still been limited in practice and is questionable for Sunday’s game, though he indicated on social media that he would be back for today’s game. As of Saturday night, there was still nothing official from Jacksonville on his status.
Jets in a funk
After an impressive road win to open the season, the Jets have suffered back-to-back losses to the Dolphins and Browns to fall to 1-2 on the year. New York is 1-2 against the spread and 2-1 with the under. The Jets are just 1-5 against the spread in their last six games, including the preseason.
The Jets have been strong defensively thus far, allowing just 19.3 points and 331.7 yards per game. New York’s run defense is holding opponents to 102.3 yards per game. The unit also has eight sacks and seven forced turnovers. On offense, the Jets are averaging 25.7 points and 339.7 yards per game, but the scoring numbers are inflated by their 48 points against the Lions. Sam Darnold has thrown for 701 yards and three touchdowns, but also has five interceptions. Isaiah Crowell is leading the ground game with 171 yards and four touchdowns.
NFL Betting Trends
Jacksonville
The Jaguars are 14-6 against the spread in their last 20 conference games and 6-2 ATS in their last eight following a loss.
New York
The Jets are 3-7-1 against the spread in their last 11 road games and 1-4 ATS in their last five AFC contests.
Prediction:
I don’t expect a lot of fireworks in this game. New York should really struggle with the Jacksonville defense and the Jets are strong enough on defense to give the Jags some issues. In the end, Jacksonville has more playmakers on both sides of the ball and eventually that should lead to a few scores. The Jags won’t need a lot of points to cover and I think an insurance touchdown late will push them to a cover.
NFL Prediction: Jacksonville Jaguars -7.5
