49ers lose with Jimmy G
The 49ers suffered a 24-16 loss at Minnesota to open the season, which snapped a five-game regular season win streak and was the team’s first loss with new QB Jimmy Garoppolo. The 49ers failed to cover the spread, as they were a 6-point underdog. San Francisco went under the 46.5-point total as well. They have hit the under in three of their last four games.
San Francisco struggled with Minnesota’s defense last week. The 49ers had four turnovers and were held to 327 total yards. Jimmy Garoppolo threw for 261 yards on 15 of 33 passing with one touchdown and three interceptions. The rushing game had just 90 yards on 25 carries. Defensively, DeForest Buckner had 2.5 sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss in the game.
Lions awful in Patricia’s debut
The Lions continued an awful preseason with an awful opener at home in Week 1. They lost 48-17 at home against the Jets in Matt Patricia’s debut with the team. The Lions were a 7-point favorite for the game and they hit the over of 44 points. They have hit the over in four straight games, likely due to giving up at least 30 points in their last four games.
Detroit looked like a team that quit on their new head coach, as they gave up 31 points to the Jets in the third quarter. The Jets finished the game with 349 total yards of offense and the Lions had five turnovers Offensively, Detroit had 339 yards, but just 39 rushing yards as they continued to struggle on the ground. Matthew Stafford threw for 286 yards on 27 of 46 passing, but had four interceptions. Receiver Kenny Golladay had seven receptions for 114 yards.
NFL Betting Trends
San Francisco
The 49ers are 4-1 with the under in their last five following a loss, but 5-2 with the over in their last seven home games.
Detroit
The Lions have hit the over in four straight after playing on Monday night the week before and 4-1 with the over in its last five following a double-digit loss at home.
Prediction:
I don’t expect the Lions to play well today and San Francisco should have its way with Detroit. However, I don’t think the Lions will turn the ball over as much, which will keep the total a little lower. The Lions are likely to give up a lot of points, but I don’t expect them to score much in return for the over to hit.
NFL Prediction: Lions/49ers Under 48.5
