Philadelphia Eagles Fantasy Spin
Carson Wentz completed 28-of-39 passes for 313 yards and three touchdowns in the Eagles' 32-27, Week 1 win over the Redskins. The Eagles fell in an early 17-0 hole in this one and were getting booed off the field every chance the fans got in the first half. But Wentz and the offense finally found their groove midway through the second quarter. Wentz hooked up with DeSean Jackson for touchdowns of 51 and 53 yards and hooked up with Alshon Jeffery on a short one in between. He could have been credited with a fourth touchdown pass to Jeffery, but the scorer deemed it a pass backward, making it a rushing touchdown from two yards out. Wentz will be a surefire QB1 for Week 2 against the Falcons.
Atlanta Falcons Fantasy Spin
Julio Jones caught 6-of-11 targets for 31 yards and a touchdown in the Falcons Week 1 loss to the Vikings. Jones was shadowed by Xavier Rhodes for much of the afternoon, but he still wasn’t able to get going even during stretches when Rhodes was hobbled and forced to the sideline. The Vikings consistently shifted additional help toward Jones, and his only real success came on underneath routes. His touchdown came on a goal-line fade with the game's outcome already decided. Part of the problem for the entire offense was simply that the offensive line was overwhelmed by the Vikings’ pass rush for nearly the entire afternoon. Jones is in a prime bounce-back spot in Week 2 at home vs. an Eagles defense that allowed the most yards per game to opposing No. 1 WRs in 2018.
NFL Betting Trends
Philadelphia
The over is 13-3-1 in the Eagles’ last 17 games when playing the second week of the season.
Atlanta
The under is 9-2 in the Falcons’ last 11 games after scoring less than 15 points in their previous contest.
Prediction
The Falcons’ offense has become overrated, mostly due to their issues along their offensive line. Matt Ryan was sacked four times last week in Minnesota as Atlanta’s offense mustered only 12 points. Philadelphia’s pass rush is equally as nasty as the Vikings’, so the Falcons are unlikely to generate much scoring again on Sunday night. That said, Atlanta’s defense is better than it showed a week ago and despite the Falcons’ back-to-back losses to the Eagles the last two seasons (Week 1 last year and the Divisional round of 2017), Dan Quinn’s defense has held Doug Pederson’s offenses in check.
NFL Week 2 Prediction: Eagles/Falcons UNDER 52.5
