49ers vs. Bucs Week 1 Prediction

49ers vs. Bucs, 9/8/19 NFL Week 1 Betting Predictions & Odds

The new-look Bucs will open their season as a small home favorite on Sunday against the 49ers. Will Bruce Arians and Co. cover at Raymond James Stadium or will Kyle Shanahan’s Niners pull off a small upset?

Public Betting

According to our NFL Public Betting Chart page, the Bucs are receiving 56% of the betting tickets as a 1-point favorite over the 49ers.

San Francisco 49ers Fantasy Spin

Nick Bosa (questionable, ankle) is expected to play in Week 1 against the Buccaneers. It's still possible Bosa sees a monitored snap count as Sunday will be his first game action since early August. Even a limited showing for the No. 2 overall pick would be a plus for the Niners against Jameis Winston and Tampa Bay's explosive offense in what's shaping up as one of the highest totals (50.5) of the weekend

Tampa Bay Bucs Fantasy Spin

Mike Evans (questionable, illness) will play Week 1 against the 49ers. He missed Friday's practice due to a stomach bug, but was always expected to play. Teammate Devin White, who has also been under the weather, will play as well. This is a smash spot for Evans in a game with a 50.5 Vegas total (we'd take the over). Rankings guru Patrick Daugherty has him slotted as his No. 8 receiver for Week 1.

San Francisco Betting Trends

The 49ers are 1-7 against the spread in their last eight conference games and are winless ATS in their last four road games.

Tampa Bay Betting Trends

The Bucs are 5-1-1 against the spread in their last seven games overall and are 4-1-1 ATS in their last six conference games.

Prediction

Jimmy Garoppolo will make his return today in Tampa after suffering an ACL tear in Week 3 last season and missing virtually the entire year. While I expect him to struggle as he attempts to shake off the rust, I like the Bucs to start fast this season under Arians. He’s not going to fix Jameis Winston, who struggles with turnovers and decision making at times, but he’s also a good fit in Arians’ downfield passing game. Tampa’s defense still has problems on the back end too, but I like the Bucs to play well enough in front of their home crowd today to post a win for Arians.

NFL Week 1 Prediction: Tampa Bay Bucs -1
