Cowboys vs. Panthers Total Prediction
The Dallas Cowboys will open their season on the road when they visit Greg Olsen the Carolina Panthers at 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday. Is the betting total set too low or will the game turn into a defensive slugfest?
Game Snapshot
473 Dallas Cowboys at 474 Carolina Panthers
4:25 p.m. ET, Sunday, September 9, 2018
Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte, North Carolina
Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Panthers are 3-point favorites to beat the Cowboys. The total, meanwhile, sits at 42.5 points. As of this writing, 64% of the public betting tickets are on the Panthers to cover the point spread.
Dallas Cowboys
Cowboys C Travis Frederick (illness) is out for Week 1 against the Panthers. As expected. Frederick hasn't practiced since being diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome last month. There's no timetable for his return. DT Datone Jones (knee) and S Xavier Woods (hamstring) have also been ruled out for Sunday while CB Chidobe Awuzie (back) and S Kavon Frazier (shoulder) are both questionable.
Carolina Panthers
The Panthers ruled out Curtis Samuel for Week 1 against Dallas. This was fully expected with Samuel recovering from a heart procedure. Samuel hasn't been cleared to practice, but it's possible he only misses one week. Christian McCaffrey should see more underneath targets with Samuel out.
NFL Betting Trends
Dallas
The under is 4-0 in the Cowboys’ last four games overall.
Carolina
The over cashed in six of the Panthers’ last eight games last season.
Prediction
The Cowboys could struggle to move the ball on Sunday. Frederick is out, while guard Zack Martin (knee), tackle Tyron Smith (hamstring), and tackle La’el Collins (ankle/calf) will suit up after missing practice time during training camp. On the other side, the Panthers will be without left tackle Matt Kalil (knee, IR) and both Williams (knee) and guard Amini Silatolu (knee) are banged up as well. Thus, Carolina could have issues moving the ball, too. With the total dropping from 44.5 down to 42.5, I see the under being the play on Sunday in Charlotte.
NFL Week 1 Prediction: Cowboys/Panthers under 42.5
