Saints vs. Chargers Preseason Pick

NFL Preseason Predictions: Will Chargers cover vs. Saints? 8/20/17

Will the Chargers cover the small spread when they host the Saints tonight at 8:00PM ET?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Chargers are now 3.5-point home favorites versus the Saints after opening as a 3-point favorite. As for the total, the number hit the board at 43 but has been bet down to 42.5.

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS: The Saints fell in their preseason opener last week. In their 20-14 loss to the Browns in Cleveland, starter Drew Brees was held out. Garrett Grayson completed 11-of-16 passes for 126 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. Rookie Alvin Kamara also rushed four times for 35 yards in the loss. Tommylee Lewis was the star of the show, catching 10 passes for 124 yards and a touchdown.

LOS ANGELES CHARGERS: The Chargers were throttled 48-17 by the Seahawks in their preseason opener. None of their quarterbacks completed more than five passes in the game, while the team was held to 72 yards rushing on 22 carries (3.3 YPC). It was a brutal performance from the defense too, as Trevone Boykin, Austin Davis and Russell Wilson combined to complete 22-of-28 passes for 325 yards with one touchdown and an interception.

OUR PREDICTION: Despite their ugly performance last week, I like the Chargers to rebuild tonight. The Saints come into this game banged up, with cornerback Delvin Breaux out 4-6 weeks due to a fractured fibula and center Max Unger out with a foot injury. Certainly new head coach Anthony Lynn will want to see a better effort tonight, so I'm expecting more urgency on the part of the Chargers.
