Titans locking up Tannehill, Henry

Super Bowl Odds 3/16/20, Titans holding firm with Ryan Tannehill

The Tennessee Titans made a commitment to quarterback Ryan Tannehill this weekend, electing to stick with the key members that helped them reach the AFC Championship this past season.

According to oddsmakers, the Titans are currently listed with 30/1 odds to win the Super Bowl next season. Kansas City is the favorite to repeat, as the Chiefs are listed with 6/1 odds while the 49ers have 8/1 odds and the Ravens are listed at 10/1.

Reports have the Titans agreeing to a new four-year deal with Ryan Tannehill that will pay him up to $118 million. The deal has an average annual salary of $29.5 million and will have a $62 million fully guaranteed. The move is expected to be partnered with a franchise tag to running back Derrick Henry, to keep the two key skill-position players on the roster.

Tannehill was the No. 8 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft to the Miami Dolphins. He spend seven season with Miami, but missed all of the 2017 season due to injury and had struggles staying on the field. He went to Tennessee for the 2019 season and was inserted into the starting lineup in October for Marcus Mariota. Tannehill played very well, throwing for 2,742 yards and 22 touchdowns with just six interceptions while completing 70.3 percent of his passes. He also rushed for 185 yards and four scores.

It is a somewhat risky move for the Titans, as Tannehill had his struggles in Miami, throwing for at least 12 interceptions in five of his six years of playing with the Dolphins. He also was under 62 percent completion percentage in three seasons.

The tag on Henry is understood after he broke out with a career year in 2019, rushing for 1,540 yards and 16 touchdowns on a 5.1 yards-per-carry average. Henry also had 206 receiving yards with two scores, which were also career-highs. Henry posted his top rushing performance by nearly 500 yards. He had just about 2,300 yards combined through his first three seasons.
