Public Betting Trends

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Patriots are 2.5-point favorites to beat the Rams. The total, meanwhile, sits at 56 points. As of this writing, 73% of the public betting tickets are on the Patriots to cover the point spread.

Tom Brady Total Pass Attempts: Over/Under 39.5

Brady has averaged a staggering 44.6 pass attempts in his Super Bowl outings, which includes 160 throws totaled in his last three appearances. While Sony Michel figures to see plenty of carries in efforts to keep the dynamic Rams offense off the field tonight, the Patriots also use James White and the screen game as an extension of the run. Thus, Brady will put the ball in the air plenty in what could be a shootout tonight in Atlanta.

Prediction: Over 39.5 (4/5)

Tom Brady Total Completions: Over/Under 26.5

This is where the under has some value. Yes, I’m taking the over 39.5 when it comes to Brady’s attempts. That said, before he arrived in Los Angeles, defensive coordinator Wade Phillips spent two years on the Broncos’ coaching staff, where he faced Brady three times (including in the AFC Championship Game). Denver went 2-1 in those games and held the Patriots to 58 total points. Furthermore, Brady was held to just 50.8% passing in those meetings.

Prediction: Under 26.5 (6/5)

Tom Brady Total Rushing Yards: Over/Under 1.5

Brady is as stationary as they come but I’m going to roll the dice here. Towards the end of the first half in last year’s Super Bowl, Brady ran for six yards against the Eagles. Philadelphia had an excellent pass rush and it forced Brady off his spot in the pocket. He could be equally uncomfortable tonight when he faces a Rams defensive front that features Aaron Donald and Ndamukong Suh. If Brady can fall forward for two yards and not take those two yards back if the Patriots are in “Victory Formation” at the end of the game, then this prop will cash easily. Plus, don’t forget that the Patriots love to run QB sneaks with Brady in short-yardage situations. Two QB sneaks would do the trick.

Prediction: Over 1.5 (23/20)
